Just FYI if you do a cone area displacement comparison between multiple smaller woofers vs 1 larger woofer and box volume requirements you'll see that multiple smaller drivers win every time.
Example - 3 10" vs 1 18" - 235.5 sq in for the 10's vs 254.34 and box volume would be approximately 3 cuft (and smaller) for 3 10's vs 9 cuft (and larger) for 1 18" woofer. You get a 3db coupling effect from having multiple drivers next to each other and with proper enclosure building they'll hit the same low notes due to secondary harmonics.
BTW I was on Team Streamline Audio when we built Alma Gates 164.9 DB Bronco with 46 10" woofers and 23 1400 watt amps.
The main reason why I'm drawn to a single 18 is the fact that bigger drivers generally reproduce lower frequencies better. I love subsonic bass... the kind you can't hear but can really feel. I haven't been able to get much of it with 2 12s.
Trust me build a nice 7th order bandpass porting through the back deck of the trunk with 4 10's and you'll be in heaven. to make it perfect make the seal between the trunk and the interior cabin air tight and it will make a huge difference.
I had 6 15" woofers through the rear deck the car isobarically mounted when I took 6th place in the Expert class 1995 IASCA world finals in my 92 Caprice. I only did the 15's for the WOW factor that the MTX Thundercast series gave you when you saw the 3 baskets coming up through the rear deck.
Highest order I've ever heard of is 6th, and don't those things have to be built perfectly or else they'll sound like crap?
Define "heaven" . Pure SQ with good SPL, or just all-out SPL?
7th-order is just a 6th-order with a tuned port between the two chambers, correct?
Almost everyone on the audio forums seem to think that bandpass boxes sound like crap. I'm going for SQ here as well as SPL... would 7th-order still keep me happy? Trunk space is a big concern too
I'm gonna go with the bambinator on this one. The 18 probably won't even get as loud as you 12s. And they are gonna sound horrible.
18s are so low to the point they are just plain sloppy when they hit. Sure they are low but its pointless when the bass line and the highs are a .5 second off from each other.
I would say go with 15s. They get very loud. They get low enough. They are more practical than 18s and sometimes if you use enough of them you can get that wow factor. The only trick to 15s is making sure you have enough trunk space for the box. 1 15 is easy in a trunk. But if you use any sub other than a solobaric, 2 15s and more are gonna be difficult if you wanna give them their maximum enclosure space which is highly recommended for best results.
Why do you need anymore wow factor any ways. Have you looked at your car lately!?! Isn't that wow enough.
I am getting ready to put a basic sound system in my 95 Fleetwood. I've got the super long harness that goes from the dash to the trunk, but I'm a bit confused as to how this is all supposed to go together. The only reason I bought this harness is so I would be able to use the factory speaker...
im re doing my trunk and need idea's

Hello everyone just wanted to share me audio upgrade.
I bought a 95 ss couple months ago. Couldn’t pass it up 46k miles one owner great condition. First thing I needed was some good sounds. I went with the pioneer meh-300ex head unit. And made a decision to keep everything else Rockford...
It's been many years since I've had a good stereo system and that's all about to change here shortly. I recently installed a new Alpine deck CDE-175BT and just last week I ordered a Rockford Fosgate P1000X5 amp, RFC1D 1 Farad Digital Capacitor, RFCB140 140 amp circuit breaker, T1650 6.5" 2 way...
Yes, this will be about car audio. Yesterday while working on my garage I found a problem. I put an LED light under my wall cabinet and turned it on. Right away I got noise in my radio. I did some research last night on the problem. Most of the info concerned EMI in car audio systems with LED...
