Good day, everyone. I found a 1991 Caprice Classic with a dark red exterior and a red leather interior for $6,500. The car has 61K miles on it and has no problems whatsoever except for the driver window. I know the price is a little high, but this is the only Caprice I could find that isn't in terrible condition, is somewhat near where I live, or has those ugly out of place donk wheels on it.

Finding the '91-93s in good shape is going to be very hard. $6500 isn't crazy money; even if you overpay by $1000, if you keep the car long enough, you'll amortize it. And you'll save that money not chasing after parts that are impossible to find.

I once overpaid on a vehicle by a grand. It was about the same price as this, and in similar condition. I kept it 6 years. So an extra $150 a year... whatever.

One other thought - transport costs are not inexpensive. Time, money, and fuel should all be considered. Spending more for something locally that you can inspect before buying is well worth it.

I bought my first B-body 5 hours from home, in the dark, in the pouring rain. Don't ever do that. Dumb dumb dumb.

If the rest of the car is as clean as the engine bay I'd say it's worth the extra $. Absolutely look at it in person like sherlock said, I'm sure there are plenty of stories from us here about buying a car in the blind.

That engine compartment is amazing!
How do you manage to keep them so nice?

Have you contacted the seller? That ad says it was posted about a year ago.
Offerup is particularly bad about ads staying up for many years after the item been sold.

Great point 96lt1civi.
That's why I don't even look at offerup anymore. Found way too many shakey looking ads that didn't pass the sniff test.
This beauty may be one of those.

That Caprice looks mint, so I'd still try and contact the seller at least. But there's definitely a chance that it's gone by now.

Offer Up is terrible. Like a 3rd world Craigslist if that is possible. Forget that car.
OfferUp is definitely not a great platform, but I did buy a 95' LT1 and 4L60E combo off OfferUp a few months ago with no issues. you've just go to be diligent and pay attention to when it was posted.

Thank you all for the replies! I will definitely contact the seller and if the car has already been sold, I'll settle for a mid-90s panther platform vehicle (Crown Victoria LX, Grand Marquis, Town Car) since they're actually possible to be found for cheap and in pretty much immaculate condition where I live, unlike a Caprice.

FWIW, A friend of mine that lives several hours away recently asked me to check out a van that was being sold by a local dealer. Pics looked good. Clean shiny engine top like shown here, etc... But when I got there and started crawling under it was a different story. All kinds of rust issues, etc. It was a hard Pass.
