Went to take the Caprice to get it inspected again ( state inspection ) . Horn does not work . I tested the fuse & it is OK . Think I found the convenience center ( under the dash on the left hand side ) where I think the horn relay is located .

Pretty sure the 2 horns are under the hood , some where , but have not located then .

I could use a little info here , please ?

Thanks ,
God bless

It may be your horn buttons. You have to pull the airbag to access them.

You can test the horns by shorting the green wire to the battery.

The black relays are all the same, and can be interchanged to check them.

I may not have mentioned , but I also have an inflation restraint warning lite that is on .

And the horn does not work .

There are electrical circuits that go to the horn and the air bag , both on the steering wheel .

Almost certain there is a part / device in the steering column that allows those two circuits to maintain conductivity between the stationary part of the steering column and the steering wheel . As the steering wheel rotates about .

That is a point of commonality between the two issues . So , yes , I will probably remove the air bag & the horn switches , as part of that investigation . And check the horn switches as a part of that processes .

If I disconnect the battery , how long should I wait , before messing with the air bag ? For it to be disarmed ?

God bless

The airbag uses a clockspring for electrical connection, and the horn uses a slip ring. The wiring for the airbag is yellow. Check the horn buttons with a VOM for continuity. There is a, or are some threads on repairing the horn buttons using different methods. Take your pick.

You are supposed to wait a minute, but I have never unhooked the battery, so I do not know. At this point, I have aftermarket wheels in my cars, and no longer have airbags.

Hmmmmmm ..........

I would have guessed both used slip rings ?

Do you have a suggestion on the wording to use in a search for threads on repairing horn switches ?

Thanks , :)

You might try repair horn, but it is a trial and error issue. Good luck.

In the process of taking the steering wheel apart / off . Stopped to grab some lunch .

The 2 little horn switches came apart . :-(

Was not surprised .

I read about repairing them with mono-filament fishing line , but did not find the link . Could some one please help me with working a link ?

Finally found the horns & tested them with a jumper wire . They sounded . Again , not surprised .

Thanks , :)

You do not have to take the steering wheel off. Just connect the hot lead of the horn to the steering column to check if it makes the circuit.

The Caprice horn buttons are not fixable, as such. You can replace them with "push on, release off" switches from Radio Shack. There are a couple of other fixes, but I do not know what they are off hand.

Just finished up doing the repair / modification with the Radio Shack 275-0466 switches and washers . Seems to be working OK . Horn honks with either button .

Praise the Lord ! :)
