Well, not in the USA anyway. Holden has been making them sense 2004 with a LS1 as an optional engine, and as of 06 they now have a LS2 in them! The cars look AWSOME. I cant beleive why GM is still making the new FWD Impala bullsh!t.

Sure, 303 HP and 28 MPG is GREAT, but its not the same being FWD. Heres a link, sorry if this is a repost but I got all excited when a friend told me they were comming out with a new caprice, and it turns out its not in North America :(

old news, brother.

Safety and emissions laws are way less strict in the third world.. The cars would have to be redesigned before being brought over here.

Wish I would've scanned it, but there was a sidebar in Motor Trend showing a BUNCH of different Holden cars they think should be brought up here. Replacements for the GTO, Impala SS, Caprice, El Camino and a few others.

I dont see a problem with emissions, its got a Ls2!

Saftey might be holding it back I supose. Or of course, it could just be GM's reluctance to bring back an old car, the public might not be to warmed to buying a caprice.

Eh who knows, I just think they should re-release em. I know if I won the lottery I would import one!

Here's a Joke for ya! The Holden Caprice and other models were updated to the "Safer" US design(Just a gas tank change and a few other small things I believe), so that the Monaro could be brought over badged as the new GTO. The other Models were updated as well, cause they shared the same basic Platform and GM was really wanting to bring them over. Holden being the intelligent Division, went ahead and made the changes to the other models, cause they believed that it would make their Austrailian cars only safer had GM not decided to Export other models again!! GM really has been hesitant about the other models, cause the platform they share, was Originally introduced in the '90's! The GTO's original form came out in '97, based on a platform that was already out for a few years!!
Holden is due to be changing the entire line, starting with the GTO's platform first!

They were making them before 2004 with LS1s. I posted this information in 2001 on this forum, and someone may have beat me to it. Try this one: www.gmme.com (General Motors Middle East).

Last year I ran across a website about the Holden RWD cars and a GM dealer add for the Middle East somewhere where they had a Caprice-like model as well w/ LS-1 drivetrain, awesome... I agree too bad we cannot get something like those RWD v-8"s here. I tried to get borchures sent to me in the U.S.A. from the middle east twice, but nothing ever arrived.

Holden got the LS1's back in Late '96 and didn't put them into afew of their models until '97.
Here is a '98 HSV GTS 220i with a Lingenfelter LS1, which is actually a Cadillac Catera with an Lingenfelter LS1

The LS1's didn't become standard optioned until '00 or '01, as the Holden Public actually prefered the tried and true Holden V6's.

I priced one under the "build and price" thingy. Came out to $75,291 Australian dollars. Hows that translate into US dollars?

Like this:
75,291.00 AUD 55,286.55 USD
Australia Dollars = United States Dollars
1 AUD = 0.734305 USD 1 USD = 1.36183 AUD

I coulda hit you with the dreaded REPOST!, but I thought I'd be nice. :D

I know it was '01, as I worked for a company that had business in UAE and Dubai, and I tried to get one of our guys to get me a brochure on a Caprice.

Still a heck of a nice looking car. Bet they would sell a lot of them. I wonder if the price includes some kind of taxes we don't have here. $55 grand sounds like a lot for a car.

Lol Bug, yeah you could get a fairly "Stock" Corvette for that price, but this gives you a nicely Modded 4Dr sedan that would be able to throw down that fairly "Stock" Vette ;)
As for the 6 spd, The HSV GTS 220i's only came with them! Aussies actually prefer to Bang through gears

Well the problem lies in the fact that cars produce over there don't have to meet our government emission restrictions, so they have less emission control devices....like catalytic converters, egrs, and things like smog pumps......

The problem lies on GM, they could have these cars here if they wanted to, afterall, that is how we got the new GTO.

What would it cost to just import the car minus the engine/pcm and trans. If its just an LS2, pcm, and a T-56 you could throw one of them in here from the good old USA and then have an emissions leagle LS2 Caprice!
Of course that is probable to simple to work though.
