They are only 28" tall; same as the stock height for OEM wagon tires.

right, but they're 60mm wider than a stock 215. so they might be as tall but theres way more tire tryin to squeeze under there. go with a 255/60 up front and you'll be good.

You are correct........I wasn't paying close enough attention and was thinking 17" rims vs 15" rims.

With a 15x8 rim and proper offset, you most certainly could. I wouldn't do it on the front. 255/60's are as big as I'd run on all four corners. 255/60 on the front and 275/60 would look alright, indeed. But again, I'd run a wider wheel.
