Hello,
Is the the trans mount in the same location in the 91-93 vs 94-96 cars? Mostly the distance between the mount and the edge of the bell housing.
I'm assuming they're identical, but I'd like to make sure.
Thanks.

I mostly just don't want to crawl under my wagon in the rocks and weeds to try and measure it myself. I have a trans from a 95' 9C1 sitting right here.

The 91-93 4L60 uses the same tailshaft housing as the 94-95 4L60e. I believe the cases are the same length. The only difference in the 96 tailshaft housing is the mount for the VSS. Make sure you allow enough space between the trans and the crossmember, so the crossmember does not hit the VSS housing on the bottom of the trans. If it damages the housing, it will cause a leak at the O-ring.

this is wrong. the 91-93 DOES NOT have the mount on the tailshaft housing like the 94-96 does. the 91-93 has the mount on the back of the case behind the pan (and so does the 94-96, it's where the exhaust hanger bolts to). we've been down this road before fred stop spreading false information.

But still the same location on both, right?

No, the mount is a few inches further back on the 94-96. I had the manifolds, cross member to do the swap for the 91. Having to change the tailshaft pushed it off the table for me.

To clarify.
91-93 No tail housing mount. Larger vss hole

94-95 Tail housing mount. Same vss hole as 91-93

96 Tail housing mount . Different smaller vss hole

Original 91-93 only fits 91-93

Original 94-95 direct fit 91-95 , will fit 96 with sensor and plug change.

Original 96 direct fit 96 , will fit 94-95 with sensor and plug change.

Clear as mud.

I'm putting the 4L60 from my 91' into a G-body Malibu that had a TH350 previously. I need to modify the crossmember to fit the longer trans. I was planning to use the measurements from a 95' 4L60E I have laying around, but only if it was the same as the 91 transmission. Since it's not, I'll just measure that one directly.

That answers my question though, thanks!

I think the unused forward mount on 95 will be the same position as the 91 .

I did not say the mount is on the tailshaft, I said the tailshaft housings were the same. I have used a 95 tailshaft housing on a 91-93 4L60.

While the readily available B parts book we all read says they use the same part 91-95 with no supersessions , that is not the case.
The 1992 edition clearly shows 8667634 with no mount. And it is superseding the ancient 8642548.

Add to this the number of people on this board that have clearly shown the difference ( edit see one post down )

From the factory, they are not the same. The b-body parts manual shows same replacement for both however. A 95 tail would work in a 91 but not the other way around. I'm don't even think the 95's case has holes for the case mount.

I never had the inclination to check upward compatibility, so never checked for differences.
