I was able to find a junkyard with a 4L60E Buick Roadmaster transmission with 76,000 miles on it for $500. Some of you may have seen my other thread.

Is there anything I should know before making this purchase?

I have a '94 Caprice SS that has a bad tranny.

What year is the RM? If it's a '94, you're good, if it's a '95-'96, you're still good, but you'll need to mod it a bit.

My man HuSSker, It's a '94. Are the RM transmissions known to go out at the 100k mark like the police Caprice's?

They're pretty much the exact same thing. Some die young, some live forever.

The RM tranny has spent its life moving a somewhat heavier car.
The RM tranny was possibly driven easy with little or no abuse.

The 9C1 tranny was probably serviced regularly.
The 9C1 tranny has likely been driven hard numerous times.


In a nutshell, you'll have to investigate what you can, and even then, it's a crapshoot.

Makes sense. I'll call around to a few more junkyards that may have one with less miles that came from a wrecked car. If I don't have better luck I'll just take the risk.
