Now that my RM wagon's 6 speed swap is complete I need ideas for a console.

I don't have an impala console, I do have a blazer console but it has a floor shift and I wanna keep that for a future project.

Other than a non floor shift blazer console, what else will work for our cars as a 6 speed console?

Open to ideas.

Boy I wish I kept my synapses intact from 10-15 years ago. There was Bill, Elias, Bill, and Bill and Bill. And one or two Bobs.

I can't for the life o' me remember which, but one of them hacked together a rather credible console of mdf and fabric. Or are you just hunting for oem like out of a SUV/minivan? There's good choices in repro consoles from '60-'70s GM. I thought those would give a classic look for a tri-9. Especially the ones with a clock. ;)

I'm not opposed to making one, would need the template though. not skilled enough to build it from scratch like that.

I am assuming your RM has bench seats...so something small.

Hit the junk yards and look for import stick cars and find a size that looks like it would work. Maybe some trimming with a dermal and some SIM spray paint to match whatever your interior color is

Of course there is always just the shift boot only look....

Planning on something much nicer than a ghetto import console :)

Seats are modified, they are now bucket seats

With buckets you qualify to entertain a last-gen E-body Riviera ala SStealth's FWBs. I think you're an oldster here so you'll remember his exemplary outcome. Be mindful you may/may not need alterations at the glovebox door if near the size of the ones on that car.

FWIW, somma them Infiniti and Lexus import poops are scads better in class than nondescript GM centers.

well certainly don't limit to "exports" only...basically any stick car console you feel fits the look of your car

with buckets...won't a SS console work?

3 pedals (formally BBHP) makes the inserts for both 94-95 and 96 Impala consoles...if you can find a Impala one

a pic of your interior would better help us giving thoughts

Following.... I want a last gen Riviera console for my former TBI car... seen that done and it looked great, but other suggestions are good. Hate the Impala console. Hate anyone who makes an "SS wagon" for that matter... lol

couple of reasons for not going with the impala console:

1- hard to find one in good condition and they're expensive. the cost doesn't justify the look either.
2- it sits too low, not comfortable to rest your arm on. maybe i'm too tall for it.

Try the 98-02 LS1 Camaro center console.
I used it in the Blue Wail for many years and now
use the Auto version in April's SS.

Benefits:
-Can use either 5 speed (V6 car) or 6speed version
-Has 4 cupholders
-Nice center storage compartments
-2 12volt outlets
-Dark Grey or Black versions
-Easily found in junkyards

Hmmm.... this idea has merit. I wonder how hard it would be to make that handbrake functional. That would be awesome.

If you're interested in having the hand brake. I have a console out of a 95? Camaro. It was an auto car but I'm betting you can easily make it work for you. There has been at least one handbrake install I found here. I'm not using it only because I like the Blazer console better. A member here, dg2394ss, posted some pics of it installed but PB hijacked the pictures. $20 plus shipping if interested.

Ok guys, I had to look a bit to find the parts. I put them where I knew they would be and then forgot where they were. :surprise: Don't laugh, you TOO will have senior moments. :wink2:

I was finally able to get the files uploaded. It's a little rough, the hinge is loose there are those holes in the box portion, I was going to put metal or plastic in there. You will have to fab up your own bracket. The hand brake is included. I looked these up on CP? parts today. The least expensive in my area was about $80 and they just went up from there. I'm not doing this to make money, just to help others here. The really bad part is going to be shipping. I sent a headlight out and it was $35. Not sure on this as it's a bit larger and weighs about 2 1/2 times as much.
