I was at a car show a few weeks ago and saw this... The owner wasn't around so I couldn't ask him about it. But, thought some forum members might be interested to see it so took some pics. I'm guessing it was built sometime in the mid 90s. Love it or hate it, that's a lot of custom bodywork!

definitely unique, I would have left out the quarter window, molded in the back end of z06 vette, and added a cowl hood, but thats just me

yellow man does it again.. that's some crazy creativity and hard work. I can dig it except for the choice of tail lights, looks cheap.

Btw ssguyfromjapan,

Do you have any wallpaper worthy pics you can post in the wallpaper thread? I recall it was you who had all the really great pics of your car next to the tokyo harbor

these look better i think.

first one is a model, but the backend reminds me of a 64 elco bed.

1994 SS, thanks for sharing! They are inspirational - I really didn't see _sedan_ based El Caprice ;) conversions before and looking on these urging me to build one for myself!

Car (truck?) is nicely done though I'd put 'Vette lights to the rear and different quarter window. But I absolutely like custom front grille - looks aggressive and original!

these look better i think.
Sure it looks better: this is official GM creation! They seriously considered to put it in production but the whole B-body line was about to be axed at that time... Notice it have a shorter wheelbase.

I do believe the wheelbase is factory length. The front doors are longer than a four door giving the illusion that it is shorter.

Anybody have some info on the model kit? I've never seen one but would really like to add it to my collection.:)

My mistake, than. Thanks for correction (though I fail to see a reason for lengthening the doors for 2-seater, other than purely cosmetical).

I can appreciate the effort that went in to it but agree it is a little hectic with all the details. The front end is just a cat eye grill molded to the hood and aftermarket bumper. So should be fairly easy to do. I actually like the fact they chose to convert a sedan over a wagon.

The GM El Camino concept is good but still looks a lot like a wagon with the top chopped off to me. Whenever I see pics of the GM concept, I see a wagon with the roof removed as opposed to seeing an El Camino. But that's just me :D

I think moving the sedan c-pillars forward works by creating a smooth transition to the straight lines of the bed. And the rounded tail gate could work really well, if it the design was simplified to smooth out some of those unnecessary details. (Less is more in this case.) I think it would fit with the curved lines of the car and not stick out like the square tailgate left by removing the wagon's roof on the GM concept. Which looks at odds with the rest of the car.

I've seen at least 4 or 5 different 90s b-body El Camino customs over here. All of them sedan based. So someone must of had a little business fabricating them.

Another that's currently for sale. (Pics from the web.)

Certified speedo. So maybe was once a cop car in the States.
