Someone at work tells me that the new FWD WImpala 9C1 cop cars are quicker than the last generation ones - with a 200HP 3.8L V6 versus the 260HP LT1 and 3.08 or 3.23 gears, I find that hard to believe. Does anyone know how much the LT1 9C1 and the FWD WImpala weighs? How about 1/4 mile times? My wagon's got the LT1 w/ 2.56 gears and it hauls a$$ over 25mph, those LT1 cop cars have gotta be pretty quick. The front drive car is still an oversized econobox.

Tell him to come say "HI"...we'll straighten him out! ;) No way it's faster...My neighbour has a civie wimpala with the 3.8....no way in hell he comes even close to me...and he tries most mornings!...lol (we leave at the same time)

All of the officers I talked to where I live miss the 9C1's...I just grin!...lol

The new 9C1 wimpala's have NO perf. upgrades over stock engine and tranny wise.

As one who rides and utilizes about any police car on the market or recently on the market, I can say that the Wimpala blows balls. Several issues prohibit it from being a decent squad. No ground clearance, hell, you could drag an old 9C1 Caprice thru a cornfield at 35-40 mph and make it out, sure you'd be bruised and have broken bones from a horrible ride, but you could do it. The 9C1 Wimpala can't even go over a good-sized speedbump without scraping something. Acceleration is typical of a 3800, but nothing like the 9C1/LT1 Caprice or even an L99 Caprice. Good braking, decent handling, although I get that awful sick feeling when I or another officer yanks a J-turn with one, FWD is just scary for me. Not enough room on the inside, small car, no top end. There ya have it. :D

My son is a County Deputy Sheriff & the new Impalas are the last cars anyone will drive while on patrol.....they'd rather use whatever Fords are available before getting into a new Impala.

I actually saw a totally riced Wimpala a LONG time ago, not too long after they came out. I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. It was quite an abortion....

ok what i saw was rediculous... new Wimpala with one of those Summit bolt on cowl induction scoops. it almost covered the hood and was black and they did a real bad job. looked retarded. about the cornfield thing... uhh.. yeah kickers right :D but that was with the 9c1 springs.. not the SS springs. hey kicker, i saw a clown dic today that had some strange lookin wheels. it was a deceptor. the wheels were all black and instead of holes it had like slots around it and uhh... poverty hubcaps i guess that were flush with the wheel. propane, bifuel?

I saw a clown vic with the funny looking wheels so, I looked into it and its just a new wheel ford put on them. I guess the new wheels = horse power in ford's book

Those wheels are ugly! I hated them the first time I saw them. Where the "poverty caps" are is where the lug nuts are, waaaay out front, similar to front wheel drive. Ford put a new chassis under the old body. They gave them Rack and pinion steering (big improvement). They also moved the rear shox outboard to aid in handling. I think that's why the wheels are the way they are. If you look in the rear wheel opening, there's the shock right there. Kinda limits the wheel and tire size selection. Anyway, I think the axle end of the shock breaks the rear plane of the wheel, and that's why the wheels are the way they are. I may be wrong about that though.

Those new Impalas are no where close to the 9C1 Caprice. They don't even keep up with the Crown Vics. Real world test see the Crown Vic out performing the new impala almost as bad as the 9C1 out performed the Crown Vic. I have a new Crown Vic with the "ugly wheels" but I still miss patrolling in my 9C1.

3500 vs. 4200lbs... the 90s style is 1.2x (20%) heavier, but...

225 vs. 330 ft/lbs TQ make our cars 1.47x (47%) tourquier (is that a word?)

That would explain the raw power of the 5.7l engines.

I think it is agreed that the Wimp can't hold a candle to the LT1 9C1, performancewise, I'm comparing it to the L99 one.

W 9C1 17.5 Lb/HP 15.6LB/TQ 3.8
B 9C1 21.0 Lb/HP 17.5LB/TQ L99
B 9C1 16.2 Lb/HP 12.7LB/TQ LT1

I have a '94 "Civy"
Caprice. Only mod, home plate delete.
I have race several new "wimpalas". Including one police car.(a friend of mine).
They were completly humiliated. They are not, in my humble opinion, "simmiler to L99".
And I've got the 265ci. MFI.
