I purchased a 94 impala for my kids and as I prep to get it to be a reliable vehicle I'm having a overheating problem. Sometime worse than others. The tb bypass has been performed previous to my owning. My coolant res has two lines coming off of it. One line goes to the steam line the other has a 90 degree fitting and it over fills to the ground? I suspect maybe this car at one point had a radiator with a nipple for this other hose. The 95,96 cars only have one nipple. Is there any way to make this configuration work? The way it is currently there is no way for the system to pressurize???

. This car has me chasing my tail and at the very least educating me why the lt1 is so different then other engines!]
for one thing the LT1/4 engine is "reverse cooling" meaning the water from radiator flows into the heads 1st then block...opposite other SBC pre and post the LT1's

you need to bleed air from the system via the purge screw next to thermostat if you ever open the system (change WP or hoses)

I know some of us (myself included) are visual learners. I also have a 94 with the TB bypass.

Cap the inlet pipe that is not used. The reservoir/coolant/system needs to be pressured to 15PSI. (Pressurizing liquids increases the temperature at which it boils.) As soon as your coolant starts boiling you will overheat very quickly.

The bleeder screw is located here just off the water pump

If you scroll down to the bottom of this link it will talk about the LT1 reverse cooling system in great detail.

I also recommend downloading the "SS handbook". It goes over basic information, maintenance items, and some basic modifications that are beneficial.

My club's tech page also has a lot of stuff on it which you may find interesting (Mostly written by myself, people here, and other websites)

EDIT: Oh and welcome! Cool car for your kid to have!
