I have a 1995 Impala SS and my digital speedometer has been going on and off while Im driving for the past couple months, I dont know whats causing. But in the last week it has completely not worked at all to where it usually goes on and off within a day or two max. Also along with that my gauge lights went out, the ones that I can see my fuel, oil pressure and battery information. They all work just no lights so I cant see them in the dark. Any ideas on how to fix these? I cant afford a whole new cause they look pretty pricey so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Welcome to the 'No Dash Lights' club. Mine went out about a month ago.
I've been trying to get mine working again too, It's driving me nuts.
Mine is a '95 too, with digi speedo.... Speedo works untill I turn on the headlights, then goes black...No dashlights what so ever... Well except the headlight switch lights up.
Does your headlight switch light up?
Have you done ANY electrical work recently? (stereo install) ?
Well today my speedometer lit up for the first time in a while, i tryed to use my dimmer knob but it didnt work at all but it does work to turn on my ceiling light so i dont think that its broke cause my headlight switch and everything else works. I think my fuse went out but idk where its at, do you know? And no my headlight switch doesnt light up nor does anything else includujg my heater lights and all my dash guages except for a pass key light or something like that i think but i could be wrong.
My dash lights have been out ever since I bought my car, it's not a daily driver so it's been low on the priority list. Could just be all the bulbs are blown but I doubt that. Speedo works fine. 94 SS.
Hello and Happy Tuesday to all, hope this post finds you well. I am cleaning up my 1995 Impala SS (112k miles) to sell it (wife says its time to go now that the twins are here....sigh). My digital dash speedo works fine UNTIL I put the headlights on, then the speedo goes out completely. I assume it is the headlight switch or the rocker switches next to it ? Nothing but problems with these digital speedos !! Any suggestions on what to replace, part numbers, how to get these switches out, etc. ?? Thanks in advance for any assistance, Chris crherrmann@gmail.com

These switches have no direct connection to the dash light dimming circuit. I do not have the time to point to other threads where someone has waisted time and money by replacing the headlight switch with no diagnostic reason to do so. Actual dimming is done by a module .
Your problem is most likely a bad ground. There are several going to the speedometer cluster.
Best diagnostics are post #13
Of course the yellow wire from fuse #42 must supply power.
If the module has power, is receiving control from the dimmer knob, and is functioning you must check the gray wire to find where it disconnects.
The gray wire controls lights in the cluster, heater, and radio. If some work, ie radio and heater light up but not cluster gauges you know the knob and module work and have to find where the gray is dammaged.
@Z09B4U Fixed, didnt have a fuse in spot 42. Put one in. All good now. If anyone needs one of those resistor thingy's I have two
