I found a 1996 Roadmaster Wagon for sale.I seems like it's in pretty good condition but I am gonna go look at it tomorow better. Anything I should specificaly look for on these cars? It says all highway miles and new trans so I am guessing ti has over 100K miles. They are asking $3995 for it and I am hoping I can maybe get it for $3500. I don't care much for the exterior look of the Roadmasters but you can't beat the versatility of a wagon esspiecally with all the luxuries the Roadmaster comes with. How many Wagons were made in 1996?

I wouldn't pay more for a Roadmaster than Caprice. I see no real virtue in leather seats. Moon roof is a liability issue, just more things to go wrong.

Having said that, I would prefer a '93 Roadmaster over my 93 Caprice because it has tach in the gauges cluster. That's all. Even then, I can just install one. Even if not the most trivial swap.

If you do find one, I suggest no wood. A black roadmaster with no wood looks absolutely gorgeous.

94-96 Caprices I don't like because they have digital gauges, which I cannot stand. I don't know if latter roadmasters are different.

I believe that their are less 96's than any others, production numbers have been posted but I'm not doing yuour searches for you
. However I have never heard of the vista cruiser roofs leaking or anything. They don't move so I don't know why they would leak. Wagons are cool, good luck. If it has wood trim and it is in bad condition you can take it off (I did).

Dogma, I did the cluster swap on my 93 about a month ago and if you do your research before taking anything apart (I have everything you need incase you want it) it is easy. I had about $60 in it and maybe 8 hours. It is really cool to have all the gages too.

ahhh I beg to disagree with the wood statement! Wood can be very cool

My car has over 131,000 miles on it and the "sunroof" has no leaking problems at all. I would think that maybe if you are dealing with an aftermarket type sunroof or moonroof the leaking problems could be an issue.
Other than that lemme tell you with a golden retriever having leather seats is a blessing, the hair doesn't get caught in the material and clean up is a breeze. Sure it's hot in the summer and cold as hell in the winter but there are trade offs.
I think that if you could get it for 3500.00 it would be a great deal. Have you seen this car in person and up close? it seems that you have not driven it yet that will tell you a lot.

My old man car has 160.000 and mine has 148.000 and the roof does not leak .There is no way i would ever pick a caprice over a RM .The main thing is all the options you get and the look is just a bit better as far as the trim.

A 96 has a LT1 which is enough reason to put up with a digital dash and comparing it to an LO5('91) is a waste of time the LT1 lasts longer and makes ALOT more power.

Only down side I can possibly see is that it could have 2.56 gears, which is fixable and even with those gears it will still feel more powerful than you current L99. On the other hand you could get lucky and find 2.93 and posi.

That's a deal. Snatch it up. Wood rules you may not care for it at first. It's an acquired taste like beer. Nothing better than killing 350z's Mustangs (even several LT1 Camaros) in your grandparents old wood grain wagon. :D It also makes it stealth no more tickets.
