To any of you guys that have 9c-1's with the huge front seat gap: Do any of you have built custom center consoles that match up to the dash under the ashtray feel generous enough to share dimensions and specs? I'd sure appreciate it, as would alot of others, i'm sure. I'd be willing to give out the specs and dimensions for the homemade ssri I built...
thanks alot.

I haven't addressed this issue yet, but plan on it soon.

I have read that some folks have replaced the offset seat mounting brackets with standard (civilian Caprice or Impala) seat brackets. If I remember correctly it's the passenger seat brackets that are offset.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

This would fix the oversized gap. It may be easier to replace the offset seat brackets than to customize a console.

Yeah, you're right on that one. My pass. seat is way closer to the door than my driver seat. However, one could fit alot of gadgets in a console that's 9" wide.
either way, I'd like a console that mated up to the bottom of my dash.

While putting a bass shaker in my seat I found that my pass seat mounts were bent and not truely bolted down. Also I had offset rails which you can correct if you take the seat out and unbolt them and reattach the rails in stock mounts.

I found a consloe that looks stock in a post somewhere around here. It's from wal-mart for around $25 and matched my stock blue int perfectly. It has 4 cupholders, trash bin, cd compartments, a locking ice holder for a sixpack, and is marked on the box as a mini van console. It fits in either gap size but is pretty tight with the stock rails so i didn't bolt it down.

Hope this helps

you don't need to pay anything to move the passenger seat to the same distance off the door as the drivers seat, theres 2 rails running left to right inbetween the seat slider and the seat bottom, just remove them and bolt the seat bottom directly to the slider, you will be good to go then.

Pull your seat out of the car and you will notice that the seat is bolted to two black brackets. Also when looking at it closer you will see that the bracket is moved over to the right on the rails, making it closer to the door.

I can't remember if mine had the extra holes on the brackets to move if over to the left or not... If not, drill four new holes to center it all back up. I do remember having to shim it a little after moving mine back over, but now its all nice and centered and with BONNY SEATS.. ;)

All you need is a 13mm socket and 1/2 hour. The seat cushion bolts to the same holes where the offset rails are now bolted. It's really easy. Nothing extra required...

Then you run inside and say "Look dear, I fixed it, now you can reach the seat recliner"

Happy Holidays :D

I appreciate all the feedback, guys.

However, it's not the seat gap i'm concerned with, it's the console. I have a minivan console from Iron horse (I think) and it does the job for now. I originally intended to leave the gap that size so I could put a pair of tens in the rear of the console.
In fact I was on my way to the hardware store when my Opti went to hell. Oh well, what's a good stereo in a car that doesn't run?
