Hello, :D I'm a 'Vette owner looking for something with a v8 that i can actually take on long trips.. The 93 has the LT1 right.. are there a lot of problems with the Optispark unit on these cars? Would you reccomend it as a car that would be SUPER low maintenance? Thanks!

Hello-
The 93' caprice was not fitted with the LT-1. That motor was installed in 94 -96. The 93 uses a modified TBI 350 called the LO5( 2 bolt main 9.6 compression and around 205hp, 300 ft-lb torque so I hear). This engine has a mechanical distributor with computer advance, two injectors and for the 9C1 vehicles runs higher flow injectors, larger exhaust and a different cam/chip combination( I believe the 89'L98 cam?)
The trans is a 4l60( re-named th700R4) not the 4l60E in the Impala( which seem to have reliability issues- too much power maybe?)
The 93's used disc/drum brakes(check for JA2)
and the 94+ got rear disc.

I own a 93 lTZ that is similar to the 9C1 less the specific mods above. Parts are plentiful and cheap when and if you need them. Is the car rough or in good condition? G80 on the spid code is for posi that was available in the earlier models.

I like the car and have mods to the suspension,brakes, cooling( just in case), and am working on stereo and exhaust mods now. Just for fun.
What are they asking for the car? Picked mine up 2 yrs ago from a little lady with 17kmi. on it for $9800( a lot more for the $ than a Hyundai)

Huh.. THe 4l60e's werent problems in the 'Vettes. Weird.
They want #3900
The owner says, and I quote, "has the 5.7 has the spichel police package"

I wonder whats up with him???

All 350's are 5.7's. (or thereabouts) That's
just the litre displacement.

Smash the trannys werent problems in the vette because it is a fiberglass body 2dr. Weight is the major factor here. 4400 or so pounds being pulled by a overdrive tranny design for a lighter car. The tranny(most anyways) can't hold up to the everyday driving of the b-body. So most people are forced to fix and repair the tranny or switch to a six speed.
$3900 for the car I guess is about the average price I see for a 93, although I gave $900 less than that for my 94.
A special police package usually incorporates more than just a 5.7 engine. You have better springs for hopping curves and leaping ditches in a single bound. A sturdier frame for tailspinning your local criminal in to submission without sustansial damage to your vehicle and a list of other things that make a 9c1 worth buying.
I would look around, you can probably find a 94 9c1 Lt-1 for close to the same price.
Is it a reliable car? I would say yes!! But I am partial to any 350 powered Chevy!!!!!

Buy an LT1 car!My 94 LT1 caprice was assembled in 93 and says 93 inside the door so maybe it is an LT1 car and the owner is confuzed!
Its very easy to get 1hp per CI from these motors. Beating Vettes at the track in a 4DR is always fun.
I just grease the suspension and and change the oil and filter in the caprice.
IMHO an updated program makes the car so much funner to drive.transforms it from a caprice to a tiger!
Now its affordable at Zap pcm and the did lots of cars at dreamapalooza. people were very happy!

I cheked out a Roadmaster.. I remembered these cars as being big, but man. These cars are BIG!!!!!!!!! Perfect for a 6'7 guy like myself. I really want a 96 ImpalaSS, but I can't see myself spending that kind of money, when I can get a Caprice which is just as good, right?
