The wheels I use for Autocross and Road racing are probably ready to be retired. I already had one rim crack perpendicular to the barrel. I had the rim welded and rebalanced, but maybe I am running on borrowed time.

I need to find a set of forged rims specifically for racing.

Every other tire changes typically requires dye pen or eddy current inspections for cracks in business jet wheels. Or on a calendar basis of like 5yrs if I remember right.

Not terribly expensive to keep in hand
Downside to many modern wheel finishes is they hide cracks.
The old school was to use lacquer paint as it would crack .
Am guilty of having centers powder coated

Are STEEL wheels a wear item? Asking for other readers' benefit.
Used a mallet and some wood chunks to re-pound VERY RARE deformities back into shape.

Aesthetics aside, I prefer the tallest tires reasonably possible; I think of sidewall as wheel protection.
