I need to be educated, what does the ABS Reluctor do and why do you have to change it if changing gear set? Can this be done through the PCM? Do the front wheels have to be done also? Totaly lost HELP.

Also anyone know a good instaler in Orlando.

Would like to order my parts and save some$$$$

There are differant reluctor gears for each ratio (3:42, 3:73's, etc). Your ABS system needs the correct info for it to work.

GM makes the gears but if you go 4:10 and above...you need to contact Bob Shirley.

Gear sets (pinon shaft) are specific to ABS cars so get the right gears. No Limits or Clear Image support this forum and are both very good places to get all the gear related stuff you need.

If you don't care if your ABS feature works...then you don't need one.

No changes needed on the front, only rear. The front tone wheels have 34 notches.

Each rear gear ratio multiplied by the number of notches on the corresponding pinion tone wheel (for any given ratio) calculates out to approximately 68, give or take a digit.

The ABS computer figures all that out, but I don't know what the 34/68 thing is all about--it may be explained or somehow described in the FSM.

It should be pretty easy to tell whether you have the correct pinion tone wheel by dividing 68 by the rear ratio.

Here's a list I put together in the past, but I'm not sure I've covered EVERY possible ratio offered in production on 91-96 cars, or what is available in the aftermarket.

This is 8.5" axle info:

RPO & ratio ------- R&P count -------- Wheel PN -------- Wheel count

GM8 = 2.56 -------- 41:16 --------------- 26018940 -------- 27

GU2 = 2.73 --------- 41:15 --------------- 26018941 -------- 25

GW9 = 2.93 -------- 41:14 --------------- 26037857 -------- 23

GU4 = 3.08 --------- 40:13 --------------- 26018943 -------- 22

GU5 = 3.23 --------- 42:13 --------------- 26018944 -------- 21

GU6 = 3.42 --------- 41:12 --------------- 26018945 -------- 20

"68" calculation

2.56 x 27 = 69.12

2.73 x 25 = 68.25

2.93 x 23 = 67.39

3.08 x 22 = 67.76

3.23 x 21 = 67.83

3.42 x 20 = 68.40

I believe that Bob Shirley makes reluctors for 4.10, 4.56 and 5.13.
