Hi ,

I got a freon leak at the receiver at the port where it connects to the low pressure switch . What’s the best fix, does the receiver need to be replaced or maybe there’s a gasket that could just be changed ? Maybe just needs to get tightened up not sure didn’t play around too much with it

thx

There may be a damaged O-ring at the base of the theaded fitting.

Either a bad o-ring or a bad switch. Easily replaced because it just screws on and the refrigerant will not come out because there is a valve core in the accumulator like the one in your tires valve stem.

If you're lucky, replace the O-ring and switch and then hook it up to A/C gauges and top off the freon. If the Schader valve is bad on the accumulator just replace the whole unit plus the switch, vacuum system and refill. YouTube is your friend.

Anyway I think it’s the actual shrader itself. I tried tightening it with a shrader tool and it doesn’t go any tighter. Can you replace the shrader or do you have to swap the entire receiver ( i see it’s cheap anyways)

You can replace just the Schrader valve, but you will empty the system. If you are going replace the receiver/dryer, you are also going to evacuate the system. The receiver/dryer does not come with the switch, or adapter.

It doesn’t need to be a positive seal. The switch opens the valve when it is installed anyway.

It must be a positive seal, or the refrigerant will leak out.

Wait !! Everybody is right :)
You dont NEED the schrader to seal or even be there WHEN the switch is in place.
You need the schrader to be there and sealing if you ever want to re&re the switch without loosing some or all the refrigerant.

The quick and dirty answer for the OP would be to try a new O ring at the base of the male thread.
This show if the actual switch is leaking , likely will solve todays leak.
Of couse , yes a sealing schrader is the correct coarse but not the cause of the external leak today.

ok so I’ll just put in a new one of these guys and I gotta vacuum the system out .

So my question is can I just vacuum from the access valve on the receiver and that will get the whole system ? or do you have to vacuum from both sides (low&high)

Your saying my shrader is leaking but if my switch was sealed right then it wouldn’t matter anyway ?

If you remove the switch, and check for a leaking Schrader valve, you may be able to save yourself a lot of headaches. If the Schrader valve does not leak when the switch is removed, just replace the switch. The AC parts are all green, not black, even the seal on the Schrader valve is green. The black ones are for air, fuel, and some other applications.

yes I did, I took the switch off and put bubbles on the shrader, I could see it’s leaking forsure.

95 was saying that you technically could have no shrader as long as your switch is sealing then it won’t leak. AnywAy I’m gonna change both o ring and shrader
