Boosted bretheren-

If Santa cooperates I'll be getting an alcohol injection system from SMC this Christmas to reduce the need for race fuel at 10psi. Such systems are very popular with the turbo Buick guys. In fact they have an entire discussion board for alky systems at www.turbobuick.com. Anyone running such a system on their turbo/supercharged Impala SS?

I'm looking for mounting suggestions for the 32oz bottle of alcohol. It's approx. 5" diameter and 8" top to bottom and should belocated close to the up-pipe into the throttle body.

Hey Dan,
I've been watching this question to see if anyone would ring in

I also cosidered that alcohol injection set up for my car, but have to decided to go with a nitrous set-up to act as an intercooler at the track, as I really dont need it on the street with the Powerdyne, and the tuning I have on it !! A 50 shot should do nicely for regular use, and the 150 one time (no cage
) to make the track officials do their jobs !!!

As far as mounting the alcohol bottle, I was cosidering putting it in the front bumper area, or to the left where the pcm resides(or used to on muy car..I relocated it.

Sorry I can't be of more help...good luck !!

SSee ya, Scott

Scott-

Yeah...I guess alcohol injection isn't widely used on forced induction Impalas. I'll report back in the Spring once it's together and I get out to the track. Just picked up a set of ET Streets that should help as well.

Good luck with the nitrous. I thought about that as well, but I'm looking for more of a safety measure than a power adder, and I'd like to use it regularly on the street.

no he never did. i'm going to it as an enrichment fuel for my nitrous. still waiting for the d.p.'ing on the manifold. :(

don't use alcohol for intercooling alone because the outcome will not be predictable. Any mix higher then 50/50 water/methanol will cause troubles.

they simple reason for this is that alcohol is great in pumping up octane rating and getting rid of excessive chamber temps, but it is also dramatically leans out the intake charge because of its much lower energy.

Believe, me 5 seconds on too much alcohol and you have burned a hole in your piston if your PCM programm can't counteract (which it won't).

Just use plain distilled water and a well engineered system like the ERL/Aquamist, this gives repeatable safe performance.

Aquamist looks like an excellent system, but the budget allows only the SMC kit this time around. It should arrive tommorrow and I'll have results by the Spring. That last thread was a good one...Thank you.

I use it and it works, no holes in pistons because of it. A 50/50 also cools much better than just water. Have seen no issues of it hurting the 02 sensors.

As long as the tune is right meaning 11 to 12 fuel ratio and timing not past spark knock then you will have no issues. To your point the Buick guys figured this out years ago and that's one of their tricks to that setup ever working.

You're on the right track. Cool that intake charge any way you can!!
