Yo stereo gurus!

I'm looking to upgrade my old head unit and get hip to the sign of the times, the multimedia systems. Any input on the few that's out on the market? The main requirements would be the in dash cd/dvd capability, 7" monitor (or bigger, if there is one) and of course, resolution.
So far I've found Panasonic, Pioneer, Kenwood, Clarion and Alpine that offer the above requirements.

Fire away with your suggestions! Pros and cons.

Oh, just in case, I'm running 3 JL 10's powered by PPI and MB Quarts all the way around, powered by Nakamachi. Existing head unit and changer by Clarion supported by a PPI EQ. Debating if I should change to my old school Zapco EQ.

Thanks in advance for your input!

http://www.eclipse-web.com

Eclipse makes both options.. a deck with the monitor that slides out, and a DVD deck with outputs to a separate monitor you could mount in the dash somewhere. Just FYI

I like the new clarion w/7" lcd,dvd,mp3,cd and a ton of other stuff, I saw one on ebay for about $1700.00, kenwood has a great product with the kvt911, it has everything except mp3, but kenwood offers the musickeg which has 10gigs of mp3 storage. (about 6000 songs)good luck with your choice.

I've got the Alpine stuff and love it
Headunit: CVA-1005
DVD: DVA-5205
Changer: CHA-1214

I hooked up everything and they all work on the AI-network, I can even add up 4 changers!! I will be doing that pretty soon. And also adding TV tuner and Surround sound processor.

The kenwood stuff is kool b/c its all in on unit DVD/TV/AM/FM/CD/Sirus and touch screen but its also price at quick glance but if you really think it not all that bad when u start-adding to the tothers.

I own a panasonic cqdvr909u head unit. plays dvds cds and built in tuner. Reads some DTS dvds all dolby prologic soround sound and all digital 5.1 channel soround dvds. Its a preatty trick set up with my flip down audiovox 10 inch monitor between the two front seats.

You can find the panasonic cqdvr909u for faily cheap now i bought mine for 550$ and just seen them in frys electronics today for 450$.

But yah the calrion joyride mp3, dvd, cd, tuner, flash card, dolby prologic II, its the trickest i seen yet but the price isnt to smooth.

The biggest screen made is the audiovox 13.3 flip down. I have heard the resoultion is shitty when your real close witch would be the case in a impala car when they are intended for SUVs. The flip down 10 inch fits best for visibilty for driver and good resolution not to big but not small.

The cqdvr909u isnt the best in dash dvd player but of course worth what you pay for it. The in dash monitors are touch screen operation and the screens touching sense can wear out.

....ok, I've narrowed it down to the Clarion and the Kenwood. Oh, btw, thanks guys for your input!

Clarion VRX925VD:

Kenwood KVT-911DVD:

The Kenwood has a 6.5" screen vs. Clarion's 7" and the Kenwood comes with a t.v. tuner, unlike the Clarion. Both have touch screen features and other similarities.

.....hmmmm....decisions, decisions.

Yo SSisco!

Is this something that can be maintained? Finger prints, that is. I wonder if the remote can operate the functions without having to "touch screen"?
Let me know your thoughts.

Good point.

Well, went and got the new Clarion multmedia set up and I'm glad I did. It's a nice system and the clarity is great. The 24 bit D/A may have something to do with it since not much of the other mfg's offer it.

Thanks to the folks with their suggestions and I'll be eating beans and rice for a while since my wallet just got tremondously lighter. C'mon lotto ticket! :D
