If you got the model I think you did (VRX925VD) you will have to mount it lower in the stock location to make way for the top to clear the dash pad. You knew it was going to have to be a custom install anyway right? You also have to consider the depth issue as I had to cut into my AC duct to gain the room I needed.

Just visited the Clarion Web Site, WOW, may have to think of upgrading my MAX2256
Clarion Multimedia

Good Luck!!

I do not know that one. Ah I found it, thats a great unit!

You can mount it in the stock location you will just have to mount it in the lower most position. Instead of centering it in your dash (horizontal). So when your screen folds out it will be in the center of the area where your stock head unit used to be. The problem lies in that any aftermarket kit you will find to install a DIN sized radio in a factory caprice opening will want to mount it in the center (horizontal) of the stock opening of the dash. That why I say you are in for a custom install on this one, wont be that simple. I had to do my own bracketry out of aluminum to get a good solid mount in the dash, after all you really do not want the LCD screen floping around as you drive.
Couple of links to pictures of my install to give you an idea, although you may not have to do as much with a single DIN unit, hopefully:

You have any cables that plug into the rear of the unit when installed? RCA or C-bus cables can take up a few inches, make sure and compensate for them.

You could try thst although when the screen was stored in it's hidden position the front of your unit would be sticking out from the dash like 5 inches or something. Remember the screen already articulates out a little more on the bottom so you can get a good viewing angle on the LCD screen. If you wanted it to open in front of the dash pad lip then the face of the unit (when screen hidden) would have to be even with the edge of the dash pad, so like 3 inches from the dash face, I think that would look a little hoky sticking out like that.

Does any mounting bracketry come with the unit from Clarion, I know mine did not.

Later!
