My SS seems plenty low in the front, but it seems to have more of a rake to it than others I've seen:



I'd like to lower the rear maybe an inch or so. Anybody else take this approach?

Also, if someone wouldn't mind reposting the stock ride height measurements I'd be very grateful. I think they were measured to the highest part of the wheelwell? For all I know it may have lowering springs on the front already (or some sort of heavy-duty spring out back, more likely).

Seriously, someone may want to split a set of ST springs with me. Will I be unhappy with just the rears?

The FSM numbers would really help me out, if someone is so inclined...

I agree with you. The stock stance sometimes looks too raked.
My car is that way. So I have just the rear lowered. I have stock impala springs up front and caprice eibachs in the rear. The car sits level this way, although the front fender-tire gap is a bit too much for my taste.

My (Early) '94 SS has a ride height of 28" to the bottom of the front wheel well lip. But I've heard that that is essentially what the Caprice rode at and the Imp's typically have a 27" height. (Some of the first '94's probably got 9C1 springs).

I put 9C1 springs (and airbags)in the rear, and now my ride height is also 28" without air in the bags. That looks like the same height as yours (if you are using stock height tires). So I would assume you've got 9C1 springs in the rear. And probably stock SS in the front - giving you an extra 1" rake. The stock rear SS springs (prior to sagging terribly) gave you a height of about 27" at the rear wheel well lip.

With both wheel openings at the same height (27" stock SS - 28" stock 9C1) the car still appears slightly raked. Consider this, if you do have the (28" ride height) 9C1 springs in the rear, and just got a pair of Hotchkis (1" lower) springs for the rear - that's 1" lower than SS springs. (Which started at 27") So beware, You'd end up with a lower rear end than the front. And that looks 'Funky' - in a bad way.

When I first purchased my 94 SS (used), I noticed that, when sitting beside 95 SS's it sat higher in the front, exposing more wheel well, and the rear sat lower. I have since installed 9C1 springs in the rear. I now have the same rake as 95's and 96's but the car stands approximately one inch higher overall. When I back out of the driveway I have no concern about exhaust tips touching the road, which used to be a concern. Hope this answers your question.

Three of my wheelwells are currently 27.5" from the ground (give or take 1/8"), and my drivers rear is at a little over 28". Seems like I remember the "official" spec not being a round number, so 27.5" is probably what it should be. Maybe I have a spring mounted wrong or something. I put control arms on, so it's entirely possible. At any rate, the picture was taken before I did the control arms, so I think I'd still like to drop it an inch in the back.

ST's will probably drop it too much, eh?

just get a set of hotchkis, put the rears in and sell the fronts. i have intrax, it will lower your back further than your lookin for, my friend has hotchkis on his car and his rear is higher than mine and his front is lower than mine,maybe just put the set in, it gives a very slight rake. i like my super level look

To you guys with Intrax springs.. do you ever bottom out when leaving a driveway or the like? I love the way they look, but would hate to smack the pavement all the time.

The exhaust tips will occasionally drag, and the frame sometimes scrapes on poorly designed entrances/exits if there is a hump in the middle and the tires are at the low spots. My old school had a nasty exit from the parking lot that had a speed bump right smack on the peak of it (went up hill to sidewalk from lot, then back down to street level). The cars always would scrape on that.
