Hey gang, fabs here...i was wondering if anyone might know about "taxi" packs? i know about polce packs but what is the main differences between civ, taxi, and police car? the reason i'm asking is that i saw a 91 caprice (x-taxi) for sale, the price is quite cheap, but it does have 280k km on the dash (aprox 187 miles) i know that's quite a bitbut the car does seem to be in good shape ( a bit rusted on the undercarriage)..the motor is a 5.7 350 in it...but seeing that it's taxi is that the same as the police L05 350? or the other smaller 350? the interior is that of a civi. model (with analoge dash). if anyone might know please let meknow.thanks

As far as I've ever seen at least on Canadian Caprices any 91-93 with a 350 had the 9C1 (police) package. I don't think they made civilian 350 Caprices in those years.

9C6 Taxi package
Rear discs? NO.
9C1 steering, tranny, and engine cooling goodies[including silicone hoses], as well as those cooling side airdams? YES. (Probably N97 wheels too)
Bigger front brake calipers with the thicker inside brakepads? I don't know.
HD frame with specific body mounts? I don't know.
8.5" rear end? YES. Rear end ratios available? I don't know. Balanced driveshaft? I don't know.
5.7L engines (L05 or LT1)? I don't know.

Fabs, all this time, and you are still shopping? www.keymotorsusa.com Why don't you give them a call? I'm about to do just that within the next 3 months. The forum highly recommends them. Just ask them for a 94-96 9C1 with LT1 and G80.
There's no such thing as a smaller 350. There's the L05 (good), and then there's the LT1 (much better).

all you have to do fabs is check the vin code as well as the spid codes in the trunk. Go by were the car is and write down the vin code as well as the spid codes (on the back side of the trunk) and compare them with one of the many info sites. I am at school right now but if you can't find the info sites email me and I will look um up for you. [email protected]

The taxi package does live. It is almost the same as the 9c1 but ran a baby LT1 (L05) and it did not have 4 wheel disc.

I drove one of those gutless wonders for a few years at work. The department thought they were saving money buying the taxi package car. They could not hold up to the abuse that a full police package could.

i drive a 96 x n.y. taxi, the taxi company in n.y. buy there cars brand new from gm, an they are the same car that the police department in n.y. uses, except that they are yellow, an came with all the police packege, except that the taxi an the police in city uses a hd 4.3l, which is better in gas an a lot faster than the stock, 4.3l, an beleive me this car is fast an saves a lot of gas, an they only use it for 3 years an they taken out of service an everything works, my car had 135k on it an i paid $1000, an it as the original engine, my point is they are the best.
