hmm... i tried a 3 finger puller i had, but it didnt seem to want to move... no nut on it though... is there anything else holding it on? thanks

Prossound is right. The tool needed is a "hub and clutch plate assembly remover" (or "clutch plate and hub assembly remover" depending on where I look in the FSM). The GM part number for this tool is: J-33013-B.

This tool removes the clutch assembly by pulling it out at the center rather than pulling around the outside edge the way your 3 finger puller does. The clutch probablt has too much "give" (flex) to allow it to come off that way.

After you get the clutch off, there is a snap ring to remove. Then, if you have a 3 finger puller small enough (set for inside configuration) you can use the to remove the bearing assembly. Tap the bearing out of the assembly. File (carefully) the stake marks (punch marks - you'll see what I'm talking about) smooth. Tap in the new bearing (make sure its square to the bore and tap only on the outer race I'd use a drift or small soft steel bar for this) until it seats completely. Then, using a center punch make 3 new stake marks 120 degrees apart being careful not to distort the outer race. Now it's time to put it all back together. When doing so pay close attention to the position of alignment tabs & bolt holes.

This may be more information than you were looking for, but better that than getting it partially disassembled and discovering you need another tool that you don't have (I've been there & done that - no fun!).

thanks guys... someone else on another bb told me to borrow a clutch puller from autozone... so guess im off to autozone... thanks for the help!

Don't underestimate the value of this board. While just browsing this board, I came across this post. I have been driving for 6 months with a howling AC compressor/clutch. I thought it would be VERY expensive to have a dealer do the repair, so I kept putting it off. You should have seen some of the looks I got in traffic. Anyway, I went to "my" GM parts man who sells to me at wholesale, and got the pulley, hub and coil just for good measure. Bellied up to autozone counter and got the sacred tools needed to "properly" install and remove the clutch. Two beers and two hours later it was "silent running"! So, if a dealer would have charged me 900-1200 for the repair, and I spent 250 total on parts and tools, I just "made" myself 650 bucks! Loving the internet.
