Just wondering if I could get a clarification of the points system....

"Change of rim width, per full inch increment of increase above 8.5 inches = 1 point"

So, since a change of 9.0" above the 8.5" is only 0.5", there would NOT be a point assessment?

Thanks in advance!

Bob : that is how I read it ;)

One of these years, I still wanna get around to picking up a bone-stock car and showing just what could be done to build a "stock class" car using every extent of the rules to full advantage....I suspect the end result is a car that not only would stomp stock class but also have a pretty good shot (with a good driver) of beating every car (with good drivers) in Prep as well

Hint : revalved (non-adjustable) shocks are free, T2R is free, lightweight 17x9s are free, Advan Neovas are free, alignment is free, etc etc ;)

Spoken like a true autocrosser, no wonder the SCCA rule book is so strict. :D

Another wheel width question.

I run 9 1/2 up front, and 11 in the rear, at this point I have given my car 2 points for increased wheel width. Is this correct?

I have pre-registered in the race class with 20 total points.

However, if my wheel set up only counts as 1 point, I could move to the Modified class.

Well, ya see, you get 1 point for the full inch up front, then you get 2 points for the rear, so that's a total of 3 points, keeping you in race class

Actually, Rick, I don't have an answer, but good question.

CaSSino : yeah, there's a reason that the SCCA book essentially has the phrase "if it doesn't explicitly say you CAN do something, then you CAN'T do it" in there

Rick : I would read those wheels as a 2 point mod. When I recently re-added the points for my SS, that is what I used (I have those same wheel widths).

BTW, Bob told me via e-mail the direction he is thinking. It is intriguing, and takes advantage of a particular tire/size that JUST came out ;) . Wondered how long it'd take someone in the B-body world to figure out that particular tire could be of potential use

One way I looked at the rule is like this:

(9.5 x 2) + (11 x 2) = 41
8.5 x 4 = 34
(41 - 34 = 7)/ 4 = 1.75
1 < 1.75 < 2 = 1 point

If it is still 2 points, that is fine with me. I haven't autocrossed since IF05, or been on a road course since IF06.

The way I see the rule is that "per full inch increment of increase above 8.5" would be 11-8.5=2.5, so since the .5 isn't a full inch, that is dropped, so the remaining 2 = 2 points added. I figure that would cover the 1 for the front, so I'd call it a 2 point mod, but again, that's just me, not an official answer.

OK, howz 'bout another clarification.

"Front Suspension bushing replacement (excluding sway bars & shock absorbers) = 1"

Is the above point covered in the "Control arm upgrade (aftermarket or modified): Front = 1, Rear = 1"

As in... if someone upgraded upper control arms up front with non-rubber bushings (Del-a-lum, nylon, poly, etc) would that just be 1 point for the "Control arm upgrade" or would it be 2 points, 1 for the control arm, and 1 for the bushing?

Thanks in advance!

Bob : I'd read the above this way...

Stock arms with aftermarket bushings = 1
Aftermarket arms with stock rubber bushings = 1
Aftermarket arms with non-rubber bushings = 2

Just IMHO...

Yes... this is corect... the bushings and the arms are counted separately.
