I took off my driver's side B-pillar trim to replace a seatbelt. I didn't put it back right away and now it's been so long that I've forgotten where the insulation piece was glued to. Can anybody help me out?

Anything else I should do while I'm in there?

You do not need insulation for the B pillar. It is usually glued to the pillar trim, and does not come off nicely. It is made from the same material as the door insulation.

There is a piece of insulation still on the upper trim piece. It makes sense that the chunk I've got loose would go on the lower trim piece. I just can't figure out in what orientation. One side look like its cut to fit around something but I can't see what. It had one line of glue on it that wasn't sticking very well and it just fell out when I removed the trim.

I guess you're right. Not sure what good it was doing and it's not very good insulation. I'll just leave it out.

The insulation is probably more for keeping any rattles from happening more than anything.
Most likely...that and to keep the level of road noise down. Ever drive your car with the door panel removed, it's amazing how much those panels and insulator pads do a job to minimize road noise. Having it on the B-pillar (right by your ear) has to help eliminate road noise too.

Just checked one in storage and as Fred mentioned, the pad is glued to the plastic panel. The pad though does appear like it should be obvious how to install it. There is a hole cutout at the top for the seat belt anchor bolt and at the bottom section, there is a U cut in the pad that fits around the metal mount clip on the plastic panel. So it "should" be pretty obvious how the pad lays on the plastic pillar cover.

Unless you are talking the lower b-pillar panel and I'd have to check that as I don't remember if there is anything there or not. I may have one of those laying around too if I hunt for it. But in looking at the upper panel, part of the pad was off of the panel and you could see the glue marks on the plastic piece as well as the pad. So maybe if you look closely you can see where it was glued on before and just use some upholstery adhesive to reattach

I've still got the insulation on the upper panel. I think the loose piece I have was on the lower panel. Wherever it was it wasn't glued very well at the factory. Just had one thine line of glue on it. Can't really see any residue to figure out how it was oriented and attached.

I'll go take some pics...

Just checked the lower b-pillar plastics I have and neither had a pad glued in there. This is from an otherwise foggy memory, but due to the location of the belt retractor behind it, think if there was a pad there, it may have been glued directly to the metal pillar behind that lower piece. I would think if it was, that it must have a cutout or something to go around the retractor. Check the pillar itself and see if there are any glue marks or remenents of the pad left behind.
