Hey, I am considering buying a system for my Caprice. It's a 94 Caprice Classic, and I'm turining it into a Caprice SS. I was wondering what the best subs, speakers, etc... that I needed. I was probabaly going to buy 2 12". Thanks.

I am no expert in this area but I can tell you that I learned alto at this website. http://forum.sounddomain.com/

I am in the process of getting a system for my car built up and so far I have a Kenwood KDC-MP922 head unit, 1 Kicker S12L7, and a Kicker KX600.1 to power the sub.

Make sure that you get the right subs for the right amp, or vice versa. This is the mistake I made when I bought my sub since it is a dual 2 ohm voice coil, not the dual 4 ohm voice coil model that I wanted. The amp I have will only push 300 watts into the 2 ohm VC, but it will push 600 if the sub was a dual 4 ohm VC model. That's the small stuff that will kill you if you don't know what you are buying. I am going to buy the dual 4 ohm S12L7 if this sub doesn't sound good/loud enough once it's installed. It's also in a sealed box that is around 1 cubic foot since I want to keep the trunk as empty as possible. I like Kicker Solobarics the most since they always sound great if setup correctly.

As far as components go, there are lots of brands out there. If you got the money get some mids and tweeters instead of the coaxials that most people get. I don't know how much you are going to spend but take your time, shop around(shopping.com is a great site for prices), and listen to each speaker(that's the tough part). CDT, DEI(Viper), MB Quart, Infinity, JL Audio, are just some good brands that are out there. Amps are another story and I would get a class D amp if you can.

There's alot more to talk about but I would go to the site I mentioned above and spend some time reading. I learned alot the first hour I was on that site. HTH

Once again, I will point to the hack baffle board and a pair of pioneer free airs. Very effective, great bass (surprises many in the car that their is not a box back there), and you get to keep your trunk. All for less that a few hundred including an amp. Since free air is incredably efficient, you dont need a mondo amp.

to put it short and sweet, there is no BEST sub. its all on the listener and what they like to listen to. yeah, you can throw out the names but dont say they are the best. i like eclipse so ill say, hey check out some eclipse subs. not saying they are the best but that they are the best for what "I" like, not someone else. now the worst sub on the other hand....

Thanks a lot, that really helped me out. I have a Pioneer head unit. Should I get Pioneer speakers and subs or does it really matter...like you said whatever sounds best?

I've never gone wrong with Image Dynamic subs. Not the most efficient, but among the most musical. Properly enclosed, and they don't need a large one, they'll afford you really tight and tuneful bass lines, given proper amplification of course.

IMHO, I like the JL's and the Eclipse Alumacone woofers. With the proper power behind them they are REAL nice.

Well, whatever sounds the best to you is the "best" but, IMHO, Pioneer = GREAT decks, not the best speakers. For internals, the JL XR series is pretty awesome - they have a better longevitiy than MB Quarts for SPL loads like mine. I went through a few MB Quarts in the doors before I found JL internals.

I am a HUGE fan of JL subs. Like I said - 2 12W7's will kick the crap out of a lot of subs.

The "best subs" ???

My favorites would be the Albacore, Skipjack, the -637s, many of the -688s, and the SSN-21 and -774 classes.

Oh, this is about loudspeakers? OK, the Lansing Ranger Paragon and the folded horn of Paul Klipsch. Both were subs before anyone had invented the term.

'scopes under.... Dive, dive, dive!

- Ken, be nice, I haven't done any trolling in a while

I'll 2nd that! Pioneer Head units are great but there speakers are NOT very good! However, The 2-12" Pioneer Free Air With the baffle board setup in the trunk works quit well! I Personally looked into this setup last year but I Wanted 2 Kicker Free air 10's or 12's and they didn't make them anymore! So i found a Pair of Kicker Free air 8"s and mounted them in the factory 6x9 Holes as Mid bass speakers and they work for me but I dont require "Metal Rattling" Bass in the music i listen too!.....Mike
