The linear-valved "firm" shock is B46-0929, listed as "SP" (Sport) for Impala SS

The digressive-valved "soft" shock is B46-1517, listed as "HD" (Heavy Duty) for all B-body applications.

shocks, using a GM label and pn). But the 9C1 did get GM-badged and pn'd Bilsteins, as the 8X3 option.

For 1994-1996 9C1s (and probably 9C6 taxis), the *Bilsteins p/ns* were the B46-1516 and B46-1517. note; B46 means 46 mm dia.

For pre-1994 cars, the Bilstein p/ns were B46-0929 and B46-1104.

There are also GM p/ns for the above, but I don't know them from memory. AND I always get the front and rear shock numbers confused from memory (but not the p/ns themselve) so I won't try to tell you which one is which.

The 1516/1517 series have non-uniform action, compression versus tension; the 0929/1104 are more even, and therefore are stiffer.

Hey, if you need new fronts to go with those rear, I've got a pair of 1516s (front, softer) that were only used for a week Im looking to sell. Email me if interested.
