Can anyone tell me if a blow down tube is required by NHRA if the bottle is in the trunk and the back seat is in? Putting on the final touches before SSHS5, don't want to show up and not be able to use it...

On the SSHS5 site it said the blow down tube was required if the bottle was in the passenger compartment. I thought I read a post here that indicated the trunk was considered part of the passenger compartment.

Thanks in advance.

The trunk is considered part of the passenger compartment because the little bit of tin and the back seat do not constitute a firewall which is what you would need to avoid the blowdown tube.

I've had a couple passengers in the trunk, none dead like they should be though. :(

From what I understand, tech @ the SSHS has always been very relaxed. Like, a little too relaxed. But, with the back seat in, I would assume you are in the clear with it not being a passenger compartment. According to most states it is, in regards to firearms, ya know?

Someone will chime in that knows, just giving you some food for thought.

You'll need a firewall between the passenger compartment and the trunk to be 100% legal. Or the blowdown tube.
A blowdown tube would add to your safety. Bernie Steinke of Snowflake fame took some steel braded hose and a bulkhead fitting and made a nice cirly-que from the bottle to the trunk floor. Very nice.

And if you do run 10's get your SFI damper and flexplate and the tranny blanket to boot.

Thanks for the replies! I like the braided hose and bulkhead idea. Allows me some flexibility on where the hole in the floor board ends up.

Karl, I'm still just a class A kinda guy. Using the Nitrous for some interclub rivalry...

I'm running a 8-AN braided hose, and a bulkhead fitting on mine too. It allows me to run two different style tanks very easily.

Tech guy would not let me slide at SSHS4 on the non vented bottle I had in the passenger compartment. I had to make a quick repair in the pits. So they are definitely enforcing that rule.
