Hi all, I'm Brian, my friends call me Zeke and I just got a '96 LT1 Caprice...and I absolutely LOVE it. (See my post in the New Members section, username zekenator)

There will be much, much more coming about my new superbadass daily driver Caprice...but for right now I just have a simple question that I am pretty sure I already know the answer to, but have to ask to be 100% sure as I'm about to spend $ on it:

Will a 94-96 Impala SS grille directly fit my car?

I love how my car looks, but I really don't like the Caprice grille. I am keeping everything else stock, but I think the car would look really cool with an SS grille with the red bowtie emblem.

Again I'm new, so I hope this doesn't violate any rules. Here's why I'm asking, the link to Ebay:
Genuine GM Factory Replacement Grille 1994-1996 Chevy Impala SS...10269613 NEW!

Hey Mark, thanks very much. I was pretty sure it would fit, but apparently not sure enough. :)

Yep I have been spending almost all my free time in the past couple weeks reading everything I can find about the 94-96 B-bodies. This forum is bound to be an *incredible* help, as you said.

Thanks again!

As was mentioned, it is a direct Bolton, although GM only made them in Black, Cherry metallic and green/gray. So not sure how black grill will look on your white car but nothing a little paint won't fix. I've added many Impala parts over the years and a black grill/red bow tie is one of them. But my caprice was already black. This also made it an easy Bolton for other trim like wheel well moldings, door handles, bumper impact strips and body moldings. Other items like center consoles and shifters are also mods that can be done.

Having a Caprice that I've added Lots of Impala parts to, I can tell you that pretty much all of the Impala parts will bolt right up. Also, any aftermarket mods only listed for the Impala, will also work on your Caprice. Also converting my car from an L99 engine to the LT1, there were other things for example like dual exhaust that the factory already has provisions on the body for dual exhaust setup.

However, if your car is a low option vehicle like mine was, adding things like power seats, power mirrors, two-light sentinel, auto-dim mirror, map lights, etc, etc will not have the harnesses in place. To do these type of mods will require some electrical work. There is so much you can do, you could be busy for years, but modding is what makes this fun and your car unique.

In your other post, I linked you to some manuals that will give you lots of ideas....be careful and hold on to your wallet.

Zeke - I couldn't help but chuckle when I read . . . "I love how my car looks, but I really don't like the Caprice grille. I am keeping everything else stock, but . . "

Most here knows - that is just a beginning! Good luck with keeping everything else stock . Once you start it is soooooo hard to stop.

4DoorSS, thanks for the response. I'm not sure how the black grille on the white Caprice will look either, but I think it *might* look awesome. Kinda like on my CVPI I'm about to sell (the old DD), it is white with the police package and no appearance pkg so it has the black police grille. Looks pretty cool I think. And since the SS grille is a bolt-on and completely replaces the chrome Caprice grille...maybe it will also look really cool? So I'm trying that first, will ofc have to post pics of it once I get it. :) But then if it's not quite what I'm thinking or looks weird, then yep I will get it painted white and I think *that* will look super sweet no matter what.

It's on my to-do list to make a new thread about the options on my car, as according to my cousin who has been into these B-bodies much longer than I (he has 2 atm, a DGGM 9C1 and a red wire-wheeled 9C1 that is I think 1 of 8), he told me after seeing my decoded VIN that my car is 1 of 162 out of the 94,600 Caprices made in '96. Something about it has the B4U pkg and blue interior but not the deluxe one...I will have to find out how/where he gets his figures as I like to nerd out on that stuff too. :)

But anyways yeah my car has power mirrors, but no power seat. Hmm...*that* might be cool if that's addable...then again this car is already fricken heavy enough, lol. It also does have the auto-dimming mirror, first car I've ever had that has it, that is a cool feature.

What's a two-light sentinel? And where would the map lights be? Overhead in the headliner? Unless you mean the switches on the rear view mirror, in that case I have those too.

Hmm...I'm sure I must be missing something but I can't seem to find your links anywhere. ?

Hehehahaha, awesome. :D To be clear though, I *did* just mean I want to keep the EXTERIOR stock other than the SS grille. I do love me a sleeper...in fact just yesterday I think I finally decided on a name for this beast just after giving one of my teachers a ride...wherein I had him exclaim three different times "Holy sh*t!". Then when we got back, "Man!" he said. "That thing is an unbelievable sleeper!"

So I think my car may henceforth be known as Sleepy the Caprice. :D

Mechanically...oh man...I can not WAIT to start doing stuff to this thing! Not sure if I should start another thread on that or what so I almost hesitate to ask, what is the first thing I should do? It's already got a homemade cold air kit, and some nice unrestrictive turbo mufflers.

I am going to make my own ram air kit out of aluminum, omg I can't wait to start on that, it's going to be so bad ass. But after that, I'm thinking first thing(s) should be:

* 52mm throttle body
* add a cross-over/h-pipe/x-pipe as it currently doesn't have one, I'll make that too and weld it in
* PCM tune (been reading ALOT about this and omg can't wait for this either)

I am after great mileage (for what it is) and at the same time, obviously, performance. So what else? Or should I start a new thread for this?

think it will look fine painted white as I have seen a few done that way. Black may look good too, just try it and see and it's an easy enough swap back to original if you don't like it and wait while your grill is painted.

sorry, that was Twi-light sentinel which automatically turns your lights on/off with the ambient light sensor. It also keeps your lights on for so many seconds after the car is turned off. Having added the auto dim mirror which has 2 map lights, the rear lighted coat hooks which is another 2 lights and another mod "astrovan overhead console" with 4 map lights and compass/temp gauge, I now have 8 map lights. Also had to add per seats and mirrors since my car was pretty low optioned from factory.

Hmm...I'm sure I must be missing something but I can't seem to find your links anywhere. ?

. Not sure what happened as I can't find my post or your thread. In any case it was these links to the qaloss handbook and Impala ss technical archives and frequently asked questions which should give you lots of ideas.

these land yachts are a lot of fun for sure.

AFA this
* 52mm throttle body

you won't need that for a while...read up on how much HP the stock 48mm can handle,
and you may agree with me.

First round of parts!

I am all excited, just started my 3rd week at my new welding/fabricating job (first job ever doing this, I have an I.T. degree that I am no longer using...thank God, lol)
so I decided it was time to get more stuff for the Caprice.

I bought an Impala SS grille for it and a red Chevy bow tie emblem to go in it. I can't wait to get it and put it on, pics to follow when I do. I *think* it might look great in black on my white car...but if not, I'll get it painted white.

Also, my daily driver always has a Chicago Bears license plate ring on it, so I bought 2 new ones. Again, pics to follow. :)

As soon as I have the time, I can not WAIT to dig into my new-to-me 96 Impala factory CD deck and do the 1/8th" jack mod to it. Somewhere in there I have to figure out which speakers will work best with that stock deck. I *think* it is some Infinity Reference speakers referenced in a thread here in the Audio section.
