Well went out tonight and tinkered a bit, got all the old brakes off, I am going to have to replace the hardlines they are shot that is for sure.

But I got the hubs and brackets from Tobin Thursday, and they are a piece of art that is for sure.

I pulled out the BRAND NEW 5/8 spindles that I was going to cut up for the mod and I just couldn't do it, they were to pretty :)

I put them back in the box, and they are on the maybe use later shelf. Got both of the old brake shield holes drilled and tapped as required, cleaned up the calipers as they were used, very low mileage mine you, but still used and GM pads from the factory are DUSTY bastards, The pads and pins came with the calipers, but I may not use the pads and just get new ones. Not sure yet.

I will have the front done this weekend, well prepped anyway, my CNC guy has my rotors and he is going to do all the machining to them and drill the new bolt circle for them, for um well a case a beer and a sandwich :) Thought that was a pretty good deal, he was going to manually cut them, but he is going to write the program in case I need it done again.

One the front is prepped I will most likely pull the entire rearend out of my car for room, I am going to prep the lower mileage rear that I got from Mike (94MSP9C1) for use in my car as the axles in my car are shot and I would like to redo the gears in my car anyway. But I need it out of the way to narrow the frame the correct way, I am hoping when I am done you won't be able to tell I was there.


I will try to get pic's up soon, probably just wait til I have the rotors on.

If you couldn't cut the new knuckles you will have a hard time putting Tobins hubs on
the car. They are ART. They are also tough as heck. I hate to pull the wheels and
see the normal wear and tear.

Yeah I know they are awesome that is for sure, money well spent in my eyes.

no guts, no glory cwm3

new spindles wouldve been nice, lay some fresh paint on them instead of having to clean off years of buildup first.
but Im stubborn like that :D

Here are some pics of the prep work, I didn't cut alot out of the spindle, I just feel that alot of the cutting that is done is just unnecessary and takes away from the strength of it to a certain point, I still have to do a little grinding yet and go find a Big Ass Allen wrench for the bolts that hold the calipers on, but you get the idea.

Yeah but the units that are on my car are very low mileage 96 units, maybe 15K on them, they sat for sometime hence the rust bubbling through, but I am going to take care of that :)

I just couldn't cut up the new ones, had the sawzall in hand with my portable bandsaw in the other and well as you see by the pics. I figured I would cut up my old ones, and if I screwed those up I would have a back up. But I think they came out alright. :)

dam, makes me glad for snow and salt free socal.
just make sure to clean up any sharp nicks/cuts to prevent stress risers before repainting.
I used the duplicolor ceramic engine paint in cast iron coat because it sticks to almost anything.
I painted the front sway bar with it about 6 years ago, wire brushed the loose rust off first and no peeling so far.

thanks for the pic man that is what I needed, I have seen a couple of pics of installations, but I like to compare on how on person did it to another.

Yeah got to love the flakey stuff.. I don't drive the car much but it is just in the air here, and mainly the stuff that you see popping up was just poor prep on my part. Should look a lot better when I done with it this time.

yw, I also sanded off the new paint where the brackets and center washers bolt in.
the centering washers could go on the bracket to caliper bolts but there was something on my setup that didnt make that a good idea, got crs on that one.
also make sure theres clearance between the head of the caliper allen bolts and the spindle so theres no touching or binding.

to paraphrase George, "youre going to like the way you stop, I guarantee it" ;)

dewalt 18v sawzall and power grinder with a sanding wheel to smooth it out.

Portable bandsaw, a Rigid Sawzall and a grinder with sanding wheel as mentioned above. For me I had to knock the flaking paint off so I use drill attachable wire brush, still need to shoot them, but they are all prepped.

Well I got the rotors this evening, he did it for free pretty much :) Anyway I should of had him open the rear rotor step that is on the inside more to the specs that Dave M posted, 6.625, but I went with what Tobin told me the 6.5 and well the rear rotors don't sit flush. sucks, I will have to see exactly where they sit or are hitting on the face, but if you flip the rotor over and put in on backwards it sits flush so that has to be it.

I will carry on more this week and hopefully have the fronts at least done by the weekend, I have a bit of mock up to do for the rear setup, should be pretty cool.
