I am just curious if anyone here with an aftermarket cam (preferably a tamer one, but any aftermarket cam people can chime in) have documented what happened to their gas mileage after the cam swap. What kind of mileage are some of you guys with cams/bolt ons getting highway/city/mixed? What other mods are done to the car (gear, stall?).

In my experience.....going with a more aggressive cam (HOT cam to 306 cam) lowered my gas mileage; going less aggressive (306 cam to hi-lift 503 cam) raised it.

These were cam swaps with little else changed other than the tune.

A cam, just like a high stall converter, will decrease gas mileage in the city.

23 MPG all freeway driving stock

18 MPG all freeway driving with cruise set to 65 . 845 cam and 2400 stall (which doesn't matter on the freeway since it's locked), and it's tuned.

around town? 10-11 MPG.

this is with 2.93 gears on my wagon.
