Centerfold for the SScene Suggestion

No replies?? C'mon Guys, what do you think??? am i the ONLY one here that likes this idea?

I dont get the magazine, but it is a cool idea.

That would be cool, feature a different picture in the centerfod everytime. A cool engine shot this month, an expensive custom paint job next month. I do like scantily clad women on the hoods of cars, but ISSCA is more of a wholesome all ages and genders club. I'm sure there are plenty of women who are members who own SS's who'd like to see a guy in a speedo on the hood of an SS, but I sure don't.

But instead of just a picture, how about an article on a feature car and owner each month? I volunteer Ed Runnion's car to be first Now just somebody to write about it and take pics....

The "car centerfold" is a great idea and I'm pursuing it now! However, at this point in time it is probably a little impractical:

First we would need a scan at least 7725 x 3375 pixels and that is unbelievably big. We'd probably need to move up from 35mm to a medium format camera in order to achieve that size.

Then we have the issue of only having a limited number of pages to work with. This thing isn't cheap to print, so right now we stick with 24 pages, 8 (including the covers) in color. A three page fold-out would eat up two more of our precious 24 pages. <laugh>

Then we have the issue of printing. The magazine is printed on 11x17 sheets (actually slightly larger, then folded and trimmed). We'd need to get one 11x25.5 sheet in the middle, and my suspicion is that would cost a *lot* more.

BUT IT'S A GREAT IDEA and I'm going to see what we can do. Keep 'em coming!

I dont think it really needs to be an all-out folding page, but rather, just two full pages (actually 1 page) that is in the very middle of the mag, that way, you just pop the staples and you have a nice little 11x17 impala picture.

I agree. It'd be great to see a full-color picture of an SS every month. Doesn't have to be a foldout à la Playboy, just the very center piece of paper (two halves). Still expensive though, I bet.

I'd like to see a centerfold dedicated to engine compartments. It's the one area of the car that can be extensively modified in multiple ways. No two are the same (you catch my drift), and the examples presented would give the masses an idea of what different mods they might consider in the future. How often do you hear "Hey man, where'd you get that?"

Why do you put the hood up at shows? What is the first thing people look at when they walk up to your car [or at least most]? The engine compartment.

Sure, I'd like to see a little spongecake in the pic as much as the next guy, but nowadays you WILL offend someone and who wants to volunteer for that?

Regardless, a centerfold of something 'unique' would be nice and gets my vote. - Doug

Great idea Doug, I also would like to see more engine bays. We will work on that one also.

By the way, would you care to show how you installed that trans. cooler with the fan?

Hey, that centerfold idea is pretty cool. To bad there won't be a hottie in a bikini sitting on the hood of an SS, but oh well. BTW, what about doing an issue on power adders? Showing some of the members cars with NO2, or turbos, or whatever, and printing that "Nitrous for Newbies" list that we have in the NO2 part of this forum. Oh, and the requisite burning-20k-miles-off-my-tires-shots
