When I'm in a parking lot and I put the steering to the max either way I hear a clunking noise. What is it. It is fine going down the road.

The "clunk" you hear is likely the steering stops. Take some wheel bearing grease and grease the stops. In case your not familiar with what these are, they are a cast in tang on the aft side of the spindle and a bracket riveted to the Lower A-Arm. They come in contact with each other at full lock. Liberally apply grease to both contact points.
Try this prior to looking deeper into anything.

I had the same problem since the car was new. I took it to the dealer and they told me about the stops being the problem but I thought they were blowing me off. I couldn't see how stops could make such a loud pop. I had people looking over from the next parking lane at the noise. I finally found the stops and greased them up really good and low and behold no more pops. I now grease them every time I do a lube on the front end. Haven't heard a peep since. Give it a try.
