Yep, you got the right Forum and Welcome.

In some of the sections there are "Stickies" at the top. the engine Performance section had this stickt that should answer all you questions. Some of the info may be old and some kits not available. But for your Price range I would be shopping around for the K&N FIPK for your car and could maybe find in the $200-$250 range and its a nice kit.

If you are really on a budget, skip the kit and "swiss cheese" the air box and use some PVC pipe to delete the stock intake tubing. If you want, throw in a K&N style drop in filter, you can, but a stock paper element is just fine.

Search "swiss cheese" and "sewer pipe intake" and you should come up with all the info you need.

I'll have a K&N FIPK for sale when the damned weather breaks. My Nephew and I are putting a RAISS on the Impala and will no longer need it. I'm sure he'll make you a great deal.

Kinda rough to work in this weather.

I'll not be driving the Vette ragtop any time soon either.

If ever a do-over it'll just be a simple boot and cone filter.

Sewer pipe , hockey puck opened up factory air box is the simplest and most cost effective intake.
Heres mine with a 3.5" elbow and plumbing connectors
