During a recent overhaul of my previously neglected cooling system, I replaced the following: All hoses, all clamps, restrictor and tee, tb bypass, replaced a freeze plug with a pinhole, a water pump that had about 5 ball bearings left, 160 t-stat, dual electric fan conversion, and coolant reservoir. I found, 2 weeks later that the brand new coolant reservoir was seeping at the seam at the front, driver side corner. I called up my friendly, local GMC dealership, and they ordered me a new one under defective part warranty. After 50 miles of driving with the warranty replacement, It's seeping through the seam AGAIN in the same spot!!! Apparently there was a bad run of these manufactured. Has anyone else gotten a defective one recently?

Just be happy its the tank and not the Waterpump... Went through 3 in 5000 miles.

I vaguely remember something like this a couple or more years ago, not sure if it was before or after the crash.
there was a thread about new coolant tanks having problems, maybe hamilton chebby might know if thats been an issue.

The issue with the new tanks was that there were dividers where there shouldn't have been, and so coolant was only in one half of the tank. It was pretty visually obvious.

Update

I put my 3rd new GM coolant reservoir on about 2 weeks ago, and, finally: No leaks!! After seeing the new one, and comparing it to the 2 failed ones, it was obvious why they were leaking, and what the manufacturer did to correct the problem. These tanks look like they are made by molding each half, then attaching the two halves to each other, by heating up the joint and melting them together somehow. The failed ones showed no external melting at the seam, and the new (non-leaker) one does have a fully melted together seam. I'm sure there is a name for this process, but I'm not very well versed in manufacturing processes of plastic vessels... I wish I had snapped some pics of the leakers.

That's actually not the problem I was describing. Mine was leaking at the seam, right below where the steam/throttle body hose enters the tank. Both of my new GM leakers were leaking at the same spot. Both had somewhat "open looking" seams, whereas the latest one did not. Neither of the leakers leaked a lot; just enough to leave coolant stains on the tank. I would've taken pictures, but my local GM dealer was kind enough to let me get new warranty parts before having the old ones in exchange, so I returned them as soon as possible.

The good tank has a noticeable bead of melted plastic around the outer seam, meaning that the sealing mechanism at the factory must have been heated up more, or more "glue" was used to correct the problem.

Its 2021 and i just got this from Rockauto, same issue you just described.. unacceptable being its Acdelco....

my GM one (box sticker dated 2020) has both passageways. I’m assuming you should be ok but certainly check yours when you get it
