I'm doing an lt1 swap on a 89 GMC Sierra c1500. I need to switch to electric fans. The Sierra radiator is the same height and thickness as the b-body radiator. I'd like to use the b-body fans. I have the mounts figured out but because my car had the v08 package I only have one fan. I'd like to buy one new but can't seem to find one. Everywhere I look the fans that are listed for b/d body's aren't even remotely similar. The only fans I can find that look like they can work are listed for lumina and such but a lumina radiator is only ~14" tall and a b-body radiator is ~17" tall. Because the fan mounts to the top and bottom of the core they theoretically shouldn't work. Does anybody know part numbers for the entire fan assembly on these cars? The fan wattage or left or right doesn't really matter for me as long as it was for these cars. If I have a choice I'd prefer the 240 watt fan though.

I attached a couple photos. The fan with part number 12003 is what is listed for a b-body on rock auto. The fan with part number 12071 is listed for a lumina and looks similar but theoretically won't work.

You should be able to find the fans at the local PNP junk yard. The only car that came with the 240w fan was one of the Fleetwoods, and I believe it was the driver's side fan. The fans are not to difficult to find. The pictures may be generic pictures as well, and you should get a compatible fan from Rock Auto. If not, return it.

The fans are not to difficult to find. The pictures may be generic pictures as well, and you should get a compatible fan from Rock Auto. If not, return it.
Yes and NO. As Fred said a JY should yield a correct fan assembly. The V08 option the OP mentioned contains the 240W fan (secondary) and the mechanical fan. All 94-96 B body with the HD cooling, tow package, etc. had that fan - not just Fleetwoods - where did that come from? But you can only install one 240W fan per car, not 2. The RA pic of the left fan looks correct, comes as 3 GM parts - fan blade, motor, and frame, but pricey as shown so try ebay or JY as that is the primary fan on every 94-96 B body. Lots out there.

A 94-94 FSM will provide a wealth of info.

I assume, you will use the Innovative wiring conversion kit?

You need a radiator with the side mounting tabs installed, not just top and bottom brackets.

You already have the 240W fan, right?

The V08 cooling option that came with the V92 tow pack upgraded the primary fan from a 150W elec fan to a 7,457W mechanical fan, and kept the 240W 2ndary.There are two optional cooling system upgrades for LT1 B/D-cars, called V03 (Extra Capacity Cooling), and V08 (Heavy Duty Cooling). Performance models such as the WX3 (Impala SS) and 9C1 (Police) cars automatically get the upgraded V03 (Extra Capacity Cooling) system. V03 includes a larger radiator, an increased capacity A/C condenser, and an upgraded secondary electric fan. V03 is also optional on most B/D-car models.
Note that the '94 V03 (Extra Capacity Cooling) option uses a 150-watt primary (RH) fan, and an upgraded 240-watt secondary (LH) fan. In '95-'96 the V03 package was revised and no longer included an upgraded 240-watt secondary fan. Instead the standard 100-watt secondary fan was used, which is the same as the base cooling system.

This seems to be correct as in my part of the world I have only seen the 240W fan on my B4U and it is a 94. Some of the RCMP 9C1 were ordered with the L99 and got a standard fan instead of the 240W so I expect the V03 150/240W package and V08 mechanical/240W is very rare.

You'd be right about the junk yard if I lived someplace else. Here there's about 8 b-bodys in town. 2 of which are in my local yard. They've been picked clean. The next nearest yard is about a 200 mile round trip to a pull-a-part. By the time I spend cash on fuel and the part I could have bought a new one. New is my prefered method anyways but I may have to go with used.

The picures don't look to be generic. I've searched the numbers and numbers for other manufactures and they all look to be of that style.

Skip white fans are ridiculously cheap. Any body have experience with their fans. I don't like the idea of universal fans for some reason. I'd rather use some oe fan. If the b-body fan doesn't work out I'm going to go with 05'> silverado fans.

Yes the 240w fan was used on the V08 packaged cars. I had one and the fan is a 240w. The method I'm using to mount them will make the fan interchangeable from left to right so 2 of them are able to be installed. Being on a truck used as a work horse and will see some mountain towing, the bigger the better. I won't be using Garys harness. I'm building my own engine harness and reworking the engine compartment harness in the truck. I'll just integrate new beefy fan wiring when I do that.

you could just make simple flat stock metal extensions for the Lumina fans to mount on the taller (17") radiator. Basically a small piece the size you need with a hole at each end. One attaches to radiator the other to fan

So you want another 240W fan assembly? I have one, not sure I want to sell, they are easy to find, check ebay. Fan brackets are unique to 240W and other ones, will not interchange, cannot put 240 fan on 100 or 150W bracket. 240W fan is fat and flatter, other is smaller. Still not quite clear on all you need. (2) 240W is overkill. My fans never run with AC off and lowered turn on temps. A bigger, better radiator would do more good. A good OEM GM fan is probably better than anything else. You get what you pay for.

Rethink Innovative harness, you have to mate into PCM and fuse box, he has done all the engineering and build quality is superb.

It it was written By Scott Mueller years ago along with much other valuable LT1 info. That and the Qalo Handbook which is now buried in the stickys seems to be very hard to find. This all quite depressing as we are losing our library of knowledge.

That quote came from this forum. It is quite possible it is Scott's. I use to get a lot of information from Scott's posts. The google custom search finds less and less good information and more "popular" answers.

Thanks for the Grump's site post. It looks like a lot of good info.

Custom wire harnesses can be made with good hand tools and will work as well as machine made crimps. Cheap crimp tools make bad crimps.

I took some small liberty by saying '7,457Watt Mechanical fan', to allude to the fact that the mechanical fan costs 10horse.

Citing from my admittedly failing memory:
All civilian L99s got 150W primary & 100W 2ndary fans.
2.56 B-cars got 150W primary & 100W 2ndary fans.
2.93 LT1 B-cars got 7,457W primary & 240W 2ndary fans (RPO V08 & V92).
2.93 D-cars got 150W primary & 240W 2ndary fans.
3.08 B-cars got 150W primary & 240W 2ndary fans (RPO V03).
3.23 B-cars got 150W primary & 240W 2ndary fans. (RPO V03).
3.42 D-cars got 7,457W primary & 240W 2ndary fans (RPO V4P).

In 96, however, several changes were made as GM prepared to [email protected] the B- & D-bodies.
As pertains to this topic, for 96:
a 150W primary fan always came with a 100W 2ndary.
a 7,457W primary fan always came with a 240W 2ndary.

I THINK the 2ndary fan housing accepts either a 100W or a 240W with little to no issue, so, if you're still settling for a 100W 2ndary …

I could fab something similar to work but they're smaller fans. I went and measured some yesterday. I'd like the larger. I'll go used if I have to just would like to buy a new one. I'll likely end up deciding on the silverado fans.

I know they're unique. Thats a big reason why I need the entire assembly. They're going on a truck that will see a lot of work. I use it to do a lot of hauling and towing through mountains. I can't always be doing 65 so the more airflow the better. I already have a 34" radiator I'm installing. The original is 28". If I ca't find new I'll go used. I'd just prefer a new one if possible.

I have nothing against Garys harness. I think its some fine craftsmanship. Problem is its not a b-body. This is a LT1 swapped Sierra with the pcm relocated by the firewall. Garys harness wont be a simple plug and play in this truck. Ad to the fact I'm cheap and would rather build wiring myself than pay somebody else. I have to proper tools and know how to build a quality harness so that's the route I'll take.

Thats some good info there. I'll be sure to save it. It is getting hard to find good info these days. Now when searching the only thing I can find is adverts trying to sell stuff. When I do finally get to a forum that somebody has asked a question it usually ends with somebody telling them to search. Seems almost impossible to find good info anymore.

No way will the fan housing fit both the 240W and 100W. 240W motor is much larger. But the other fan housing will fit both the 100W and 150W motors - maybe that's what you meant.

FWIW - I have more fans than I realized. Willing to sell either or both fans complete (brackets, blades, motors, all wiring) for a V03 system - that's the 240W and 150W units. Excellent condition, tested, clean. These are SoCal units, not rustbelt jobs, unused for years. kept as spares, but never needed. PM if interested. Still not 100% clear what you need.

Doubt you will find new ones.
