Driver side had to be reworked.

Step one was to re do 1 & 7
they need to be pushed way back to clear the oil system
the CIA Quads leave so much room from the primaries the the fire wall
you could drive a school buss thru there

I belive this is to make the headers mate the stock cat back flange location

So the header gets cut

then the collector gets located in its home

then it is connect the dots
point A to point B
the old CIA primary tubes were salvage and reworked
Painters tape holds everything in place so nice

from the top it looks like nothing happened
despite moving the pipes back over 8 inches!

here is what #7 looks like moved

This is a ton of work.
And must look easy on the internet.

Heck you can only listen to Bowies Greatest hits Disk#2 and Parliments Greatest Hits by your self only so many times b4 you go nuts.
Special thanks to Shawn aka DeathMobile and his son Stu who came by several times and helped out a ton.

Oh 3 & 5 my new friends you have to go

One questions thier sanity when cutting up perfectly good already custom built race parts
to make different race parts

This used to be something

It took a whole day just to get 3 & 5 in painters tape for this picture.
Stu and Shawn and I spent several hours stairing at the bottom of my ride.

#5 joins the group
and it almost looks like a header now

Building the custom Driver side required a very specific order of operations for the build
I wont bore you with all the details.

While in the car, I use a razor blade to cut a window in the painters tape
this gives me a place to put a tack weld with my MIG
while the tape holds it in place!:Dcwm5;)

These are the sub assembled pipes.

My buddy is a hard core BMW / Porsche fan and has some serious tools.
He really co-managed the design of my exhaust program w/ me as the labor.
Once tacked the sub assembled primaries go to my buddies house for TIG welding.

The sub assemble primies were mated back to the flange and collector in the car
I tacked it all together while in the car with my little MIG.
Then back to The Tay's Hey-ouse for more TIG welding.
Notice the 944 Turbo rear suspension work bench.
All the cool kids weld like this:pcwm5:p

Here it is a totally raw and unrefined tacked together
worlds first LT1 B-Body fully swept back!
1.3/4" long tube full length merge collector long tube.

bunch of argona and a day later
here is the raw & unclean TIGed full header

the lay out Shawn, Stu and I came up with ruleZ!
I can change all 4 driver side plugs from under neath from one location
The area around the oil filter and motor mounts is WIDE OPEN!
The oil system is free of all heat and interfearence!:p

Beautiful...

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!

That is the first thing I said at the end of reading this thread. What dedication and professionalism. Congratulations and looking forward to the culmination of the project.

Well done!

musical pipes

So the VHT needs to be baked on.
Playing with the torch I discovered how effective the merge is.

Musically the primaries and secondaries are 100% tied together!
The torch has to travel around 5-10 feet per second at best
and would create good suction on the primary paired port!
and even weak vacuum across the secondaires the very diluted non mates.

Now if this happens at such a low volume and flame speed...
OMG the vaccum it would make at 400feet pre second 44ci per exhaust pulse discharge!

check this out @ 1:27 how the flame's fresh air is dependent on its mated pair!
Insane!!!

Yeah, Stu came home and said, "Dad, we seriously need to jack up the deathmobile and clean under there....Tad's car is ridiculous!" You could eat off the heat shields.

But seriously, anyone who has seen Tad's car will agree that there are so many little details everywhere that you could spend all day finding new stuff. To top it off, the car is actually really clean and doesn't look like the road racer it is until you look deeper.

On the passenger side I was able to get to all of the plugs with straight plug heads. But when I went with the TFS angle plug heads I had to remove the header from the head to get to the number 6 & 8 plugs. Driver side was a lot easier. What heads are you using? Straight or angle?

Also with my stroker motor I have splayed caps, so I had to slightly bend my dip stick tube to get past the bearing cap. So if I put the tube in first, then I had a heck of a time getting the header over the tube. If I put the header on first then I had a heck of a time trying to get my dip stick tube in because of the splayed cap.

I just thought I would give you some heads up (no pun intended) if you run into any issues on the passenger side.

My main goals are fun, fast , functional stealth!
Joe Watring who I wrenched with for a while turned me on to "clean'.
Thanks Joecwm7

I'm sure something will leak and mess it all up!cwm8

Let me know when it's time to work on Stu's ride.

BTW, PB Blaster FTMFW on cleaning the underside!

Nice work Tad!

But when I went with the TFS angle plug heads I had to remove the header from the head to get to the number 6 & 8 plugs.
I found that with the TFS heads it is easier to get #6 and #8 by dropping the starter. Those 2 are pretty easy to grab from the bottom with the starter removed.

Nice work man, when are these gonna go on sale?
If Dan can pay me a small royalty per set and names them the TAD spec Tri-Y,

I'm game.

KEEP IN MIND I HAVE NOT DYNOED THESE YET!

The problem was the plug could only back out so far before hitting the primary tube. That and getting the MSD boots on and offcwm3

But they still where a nice set of headers and well worth it, for just 2 plugs.

I'm just going a different route. From one source of boost to another;)

Why not just start with new, uncoated headers? Makes too much sense, right? :D
Well I suckered myself.

I thought that the CIA Tri-Y's SSleepingbeauty sold me would be perfect.
And you can see the bolted right up qand were ready to go down the road.

Then I spent some time talking to the Pos, playing with Engine Analizer, and MAX pipesoftware.
And basically had a change of heart.

That and my sawzall talks to me.

Pretty impressive work. Curious to see the final catback setup as well. :)
Well thats the perfect segway into the cat back build!!!
Cause I documented the heck out of that too!:pcwm5:D

I'll post up picks of the cat back next.
But right now I have a friend (that knows how to TIG) over for dinner.
