no i dont have one i checked for it i didnt know if you had the stealth switch you dont have a T/S
Dimmer switches are known for going bad over time. In my 90 F-150, the spring heated up, the dash lights went out, and it shot a red hot spring at my foot, and burned the carpet. :D I wondered why you had to have the switch in JUST the right spot to have the dash lights on.

The dimmer switch in these cars, works the same way. Should only be like $15 for a new one.
dimmer switch wasnt the problem anyone have any suggestions?
If this is a 9c1, look for the "stealth" light switch. under the radio. Same behavior on my 1A2.
+1

the switch above the cig lighter kills the dash so cops could creep
I'm going from fuzzy memory here, so double check what I'm saying. There is a remote dimmer module somewhere under the dash, AC Delco p/n D1509B. It is a transistor circuit that controls dash illumination when the lights are on. I believe (again, double check me here) that when it fails the dash lights work only when the headlight switch is off. The factory service manual has the complete troubleshooting sequence I think. Note that this module is NOT the dimmer switch-- it is separate. Rockauto has them for about $30. They're used on a bunch of GM vehicles from mid-80s on up, so you can probably find one in the boneyard if you want a cheap one as a "try-and-see" part.
is your a 9c1 cause if it is they have that button next to the radio that turns your cluster off when the headlights are off
ok ill this this and get back to you guys becuase its not the stealth switch that works fine

I think what he's saying is when his lights are off, his cluster lights up but when he turns his lights on, his cluster turns off. I think it mite be something to do with the dimmer switch, but I don't know
yeah thats exactly what im saying

same exact thing is going on with mine. display works when lights off, turn switch one and they all go out.
did you ever figure it out?? if not, i THINK we might need THIS
It controls the dim of the dash lights when headlights are turned on.
part

where is that part located in the car?
Did you get it fixed? If so, what was the solution?
I just replaced that control module thing I posted above with a junk yard replacement and that didnt help me either. also replaced my dimmer/headlight switch, didnt help. did you figure it out yet??? Im stuck and have no idea where to look next, if you figured it out please post it up
nope i havent figured it out either
my car did the same thing.........fiured out it was the switch to the right, just under the radio, it has a pic of a light bulb and the word off. i just pushed it and it worked.....
that would be a possibility, if I had a 9C1
the blackout switch i have that but it works fine to turn it off when i have my lights off but when i have my lights on the dash is black no matter how many times i press that switch
BUMP... hoping someone can figure this out, or give us some guidance if they went through this before..
When you turn your headlights on do the other areas of the dash light up like normal? (The fuel guage, water temp, A/C Controls)
