I have a 2000 Impala LS 3.8. The digital odometer light started acted weird probably a couple years ago. It would light up one day & not the next. This past January? was the last time it lit up. As far as I can tell, the odometer was working. It just wasn't lighting up. What can I do to fix it? A mechanic I talked to didn't think it was a fuse issue. I don't know much about cars, so I am coming to this forum to ask for advice before taking it in & getting soaked. I read some of the older comments which stated that the resistors go bad. If I can even get an idea of what the problem is, that'll be better than going in blind to an electrical repair shop.

While your issue a very possibly the same as ours, the fix will be more specific to your type of car.
This forum is a very narrow focus 94-96 Impala and some similar cars.

You need to pose the qustion on a forum that encompasses your 2000 .

Thank you :) I followed the link & found a bit more info. Sounds like resistors is still one of the main culprits. Also listed was the dimmer switch & the light sensor located on the dash. My next question is, am I better off taking my Impala to a dealer or taking it to an electrical shop? Neither is going to be inexpensive. But it seems as if a dealer is always going to charge more.
