Will a double hump crossbar from a 94-96 wagon fit a -79 frame? Are 77-90 wagon frames identical to 91-96 wagon frames?

Yes GM used the same frame on the B-bodies from 77-96, and one of the differences being the transmisson cross member.. In most cases there are mounting holes already in place, due to the different transmission lengths available...

Thanks Dragon! So hypothetically I can move my 79 body on to a 94 frame - with all the 14 bodymountings etc. being the same? (The reason being that my 79 frame is rotten and I need parts for my 92 RMW...)

I originally posted this in the Caprice section for another member asking about floor pans, so I repost for you and other members here..

Coupes/Sedans built on the B platform include:

1976-1985 Buick LeSabre
1971-1981 Pontiac Bonneville
1977-1990 Pontiac Parisienne
1971-1975 Pontiac Catalina
1973-1985 Chevrolet Impala
1971-1976 Oldsmobile 88
1977-1985 Oldsmobile 88
1988-1990 Chevrolet Caprice
1991-1993 Chevrolet Caprice
1994-1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic
1992-1996 Buick Roadmaster
1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS

Station wagons include:

1988-1990 Chevrolet Caprice
1991-1993 Chevrolet Caprice
1994-1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic
1977-1990 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser
1991-1992 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser
1988-1989 Buick Electra Estate
1986-1990 Buick Estate
1991-1996 Buick Roadmaster
(Pontiac also had the Pontiac Parisienne Safari wagon, Pontiac Grand Safari wagon in the mix as well)

With that said, all of the station wagon frames should be interchangable with possible slight
variations to them(i.e. bushings/front enginge cradle area(77-93 have to be modified if using later power train ie an L-99/LT-1/4)rear-ends,linkages, etc..) but the all should be useable..

Some of the different models didn't use all of the bushings, but the locations are usually there and if not then it wouldn't be too difficult to fabricate something up...

I would honestly take measurements and visually inspect the two vehicles before jumping directly into the swap, but you should be able to see how close they actually are...
