Over on the Volvo side of the world, they have to improvise for somethings since there is a noticable lack of vendors in some areas. For instance, sway bars, for Volvo's, just about all you can get in the US is IPD and they're kinda pricey.

Anyhow, on to my musing. The 242/244 series uses a Dana 30 live axle, set up a bit like ours, and its common to see guys fab up an adapter plate to run 2 17mm stock sway bars out back, basically sandwiched together. They rum em hard and they work well, with no failures that I could find evidence of.

Is there any reason we couldn't machine a 1" solid spacer and run two stock bars out back with a F-body front bar? I think it would be a cheap way to get a pretty tough rear sway on the cheap.

Ok, flame on. :D err.. I meant... um debate.

It's been done before on our cars. In fact, due to the bar shape I think you just need a few fender washers between them to get the spacing needed (i.e. no need for custom spacers).

Biggest issue is that you are adding quite a bit of unsprung weight for not much gain in roll stiffness.

In rear swaybar terms on our cars, you're getting approx double the roll stiffness for double the weight (18->36 lbs). In contrast, my Hellwig rear bar (30 mm vs 26mm stock) is in the same ballpark as that as far as rear rate increase......and only weighs about 3-4 lbs more than the stock bar!

Or put another way : the monster rear HA bar on our cars is right at double stock bar weight (38 lbs). It is a whopping 440% stiffer than stock though!

So I guess what you are saying is...if youre gonna put dual swaybars on for better roll stiffness, dont do it with the stock bar but use the HA/HO one. 2 bars, 4 times the wieght, but 880% more stiffness than stock.
