...try pulling OUT the spre tire, jack and all that crap. I've suddenly got the same problem, but I haven't pulled out the spare yet. Didn't have the problem before I messed with the spare & jack & etc. a few weeks ago.

If it's not stuff in the trunk, check the bolts on the rear sway bar. If they are loose, the washers rattle with that tambourine sound - I know from personal experience...

Sebastiano,
You could also check all the heat shields under the car. I've lost a couple of screws out of them and they rattle pretty good.

Sebastiano, SSpiffy is RIGHT!!! I had the EXACT same problem for the last few weeks. Irritating as hell isn't it?

I thought that it was the e-brake cable. I did the whole 6 clicks and tightening deal, but it only lessened it a tiny bit. I was under the back end yesterday playing with the exaust line (looking for chunks of catalyst in the muffler) and bumped the rear sway bar with my hammer. It made this wierd sound
so I gave it a yank. It would move almost 1/4"! I tightened all four bolts and the sound is gone thank GOD. I feel a new stiffness in the rear as well. No butt jiggling over speed bumps now.
2 bolts, eithr side, 15mm. I used a socket to tighten, and clamped vice-grips on the top bolt to keep it from spinning (the shock or chassis would stop it from rotating while tightening).

Now I have to answer 4 X 4 questions???

The emergency brake cable rubs on the floor pan..

There is NO fix... trust me... I beat GM to death over there not being a stanchion for the cable run thru.

So while driving ( the brake cable is released and loose) and it flops in the wind and beats on the bottom of the floor..

I just put white grease where it rubs and try not to listen.

Check it out

This is the same thing that is happening with my car, I'll do the same thing and check all the heat shield and rear sway bar bolts.

Also check the edges of your heat shields. They can rub against your frame rails even if they're tight.
