Two ThumbSS Up

Kudo's Gerry; well done!

Brings to mind "I wana lebins" - Chevelle owner in the Minot AFB barracks parking lot during an early part of life; first time I saw front wheels off the ground while not at the track. 396, 4 speed, gears...... Ah yes, big blocks and Muncies [and Borg Warners].

Oh - and 'auto/anti' nothing. Remember when cars were simple? AND cheap and easy to fix?

Love wide valve covers. Even better if the spark plugs run down the center of them.

390, 396, 426, 427, 428, 429, 440, 454.... 502! No substitute for cubic inches. Shame they won't fit FWD's..... nyuck, nyuck, nyuck...... 20th Century North American Elephants!!!

Gerry - did you know it was a good run across the finish line - or jaw dropped at the timing shack?

First I thought it was a throw away when the mops came out at the starting line !

Once underway I had a feeling it would be good run when I hit the limiter just before the line (see head lurch forward)

Was hoping 11.9, dreaming 11.7

Yes I remember the good old days too ( still own the cars)
I also remember 12 seconds was a total KILL street car in the day !!

Simple is relative. Dig through tool box for different dist. spring, wind to moon staring at damper with timing lamp, or
key stroke on laptop :)

Thanks for the positive comments

Final Grain of Salt

Very nice run Gerry!

Interesting - spent a lot of time this past weekend thinking about what's needed for the 'firewall forward' work to be done prior to slipping in my old '56' engine and drivetrain from the totaled SS.

Then I watched the above. Time to make the move. Gotta get a clutch in the wagon before the year is over. I miss the stick shift purty fairly....

There's that 11.7 you've been dreaming about. :grin2:

You really have that wagon moving. Great job!

So sorry we never got to attend a SSHS. Robert always said he wanted to win that event and show the East coast what the West coast could do. I hope someday someone will attend that event with our car and win it for the West coast...

Nab, I read the intro post too and had ???? about the current status too. I thought I was being dense. Thanks Bud for making me feel a little better about my comprehension. Sad to lose someone, I know. :crying:

Nab....if your referring to my post above about Robert...his name is Robert Raypole and the car is a 95 Impala SS 383 with a Procharger F1R supercharger and many performance parts. He is from Arizona and that's where the car is now. He lost his battle with cancer on July 4th and never saw his babe finished to get that timeship to show him that all his work finally paid off in awesome numbers.
I am trying to sell it hoping I can find someone that will finish his dream and see the 800HP potential that he says the car has. He has been a diehard racer since 1960's when I met him at Lions drag strip.

Link to the drag racing FAST TIMES page. Click link if you want to see who's got the fastest B/D Body, who's running what combo to achieve their times, and other great info to bench race with: http://www.top-et.com/impalass/

-----

BTW, we moved! Check out the new Top-ET page at the link above. There are a few changes including the long awaited "weight" column. We are slowly working toward filling in that column as much as we can.

Hopefully the page should be a little easier to work with now. Dan is still in the process of tweaking things to make it run better.

I'd like to thank Dan Esteban for all the work he's put into this.
And of course I'd like to thank Karl Ellwein for coming up with the idea in the first place to create a database to record this kind of info.

Please update your bookmarks to direct to this page in the future.

Estaban has always owned it. I wonder what happened? Do you think Karl might know? He knows about most things :smile2:
