No worries, this has been done multiple times since the early 2000s by numerous bygone ISSF elders with no concerns or issues raised.
Works.

The vast majority of ISSF posts prior to Aug of 2009 are not easily searchable.
That does not change the fact that the answer to your question about the Mr Gasket head gasket is

It's been recommended and tried scores of times, meeting or exceeding expectations each time.
I know it's not as good as links to past threads testifying to that effect ...
