What do you guys think of Focal speakers? They seem a little high in price to me. After you pass 300-400 dollars a pair for speakers, what in the world could make a speaker worth another $200?

I think they are one of the best speakers out their right now. I have listened to their whole line of components and their worth every penny. When I was looking for components they were on top of my list along with MB Quart and Boston Acoustic. I went with MB Quart because I like their overall sound. You pay for what you get when buying any of the brands.

I have a set of Focal PolyKevlar 3-ways that I paid $950 for new. That was 2 years ago, and they still sound as beautiful now as they did then. The speakers are handmade in France, so obviously you can expect quality.
The $$$ part comes from the fact that they're handmade, and use somewhat exotic materials. If you're not a demanding audiophile, you can probably live without Focals. Once you've heard them though, it's hard to top them :D

Looks like I need to listen to some in a better environment. All the audio shops I went to did not have very good setups for comparing speakers. They also liked to turn it up really loud, as if that was going to help me out any... "That distortion sounds great.... "

I did not realize they were handmade. That would explain part of the cost. I went looking for Boston Acoustic, but the one place I stopped by had changed to Focal. I had never heard of them before, but now I know
. Thanks!

Do yourself a favor and dont listen to anything over $200 a pair. This is no different than going for a ride in a faster car than yours, once you get hooked it gets expensive fast, and theres no going back. This is truely a case where ignorance is bliss. I damn the first guy that gave me a ride in a fast car and the guy that let me listen to his $5k stereo.

I found a pair of Focal PK series 6-1/2" components (w/tweets & cross) on ebay for $300 last year.

They were VERY highly recommended on the car audio forums I checked. No claim was overstated. I personally can't see paying more. Unless you are Steve Cornell building another awesome experience!

I had two sets of Infinity kappa pefect 5.1's in the car and for a while i thought they were amazing. Extremely clear and they screamed. I blew a crossover and decided to spend $750 a few years back on the A/D/S 346is (which you can find now for dirt on the net) - I had no idea what i was missing out on. I drive the car daily and the radio is the 1st thing im touching, next to the pedal. I can no longer tell when the highs are coming over the mids, it is so perfectly even . I havent changed the tweeter position or anything. My ear was very suprised and pleased to this day. Its all a matter of how much you want to spend and what will keep you happy and for how long.
