Front Cover requirements

I've got a picture that would make a pretty cool cover (at least in my mind!). It was taken at max resolution with a 2 MegaPixel camera. Is that enough resolution to make a quality cover?? If not, I'll submit it anyway cause it's a good shot.

It'd be a cool pic (and sounds like it'd be an AWESOME "Reader's Rides" picture!), but not enough for a cover shot. For that, you still really need 5-6 megapixel or film.

The magazine printer I believe uses 300 DPI, so a 2 Megapixel camera is usually something like 1600x1200.....which works out to a 5.3"x4" picture in print.

Thanks Ed. I guess I should have had a little more foresight there, but the shot was a little spur-of-the-moment. Where should I send the pics(just moved so the Impala SScenes are still in a box SOMEWHERE!)?

Either send them to Chris Nickell at [email protected] or myself at [email protected] and we'll get them to the right place.

Yep... Ed you are right on the money. We need 300 dpi. So full page shots have to be BIG to look good after printing. If you'd like to submit it for a readers ride, please do!

Chris...

Does the printer still want 1/4" extra on the top, bottom and right side of cover? I want to fix up some night shots from the ImpalaFest drags for you to consider. :) I'm remembering that's 2625 pixels wide by 3450 pixels high...

It was great to see you at ImpalaFest, I hope you had a good time this year!

Seven years and still no left foot wear spot...
BTW Dan, you might be starting to get that "left foot" wear spot starting on your carpet now :D
G
Yep Dan... the cover needs to be larger that a standard "full page" pic. I don't have the numbers in front of me. Did you notice 2 issues ago the one with the red trim line around it... that's was my learning curve showing... I croped that shot too much and the printer had to patch in that edging.... I'm still not too clear why, but I'll figure it all out one of these days!!!

Hope you got some good shots at the event, I'd like to put together a good spot for it!!!
