The float may be bound up. It's easy to do if you're not careful when reinstalling the sender assembly.
You got that right,! lol, The float arm probably got knocked out of the little clip it rides on, and wherever that clip is sitting on the slide that is where it will read.......until you drop the tank and clip it back on...that's why my gauge always reads just above the 1/8 mark...and I'm not dropping the tank again just for that....I just fill up every 200-250 miles on the trip meter.
