Hi everyone. I'm trying to get by on as low a budget as possible. I would like to tune my 95 caprice wagon. It has headers and I will soon be installing a cold air intake. I would like to tune to compensate for these changes. I would also like to tune for best possible MPG.
The car is also running rough and I would like to use the software and hardware for diagnostic purposes.
So, I want to data logging, edit tunes, and re-flash the pcm.
I've searched and THINK I have it figured out, and was hoping if you guys could tell me if I'm right.
If I purchase this https://www.moates.net/aldu1-and-cabl2-combo-backordered-til-917-p-128.html?cPath=64
could I do the rest with free software?
I'm thinking TunerPro
Pcmcomm
or perhaps this cable http://www.aldlcable.com/products/aldlobd2u.asp and the above software.
what do you guys think. Am I on the right track, or am I way off base here?
I know most people buy the better software, but if I can get by with the free ware then I will
Thanks guys

Cable from

PCM read-&-write utility

TunerPro
http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadApp.htm and http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadBinDefs.htm

No guarantees with TunerPro, but it's the most highly recommended free software suite to tune old LT1s, and it even comes with its own free datalogging utility.

For simplicity's sake, and the guarantees that come with a pro who's reputation has been beyond reproach for 22 years, one-stop-shopping for $255:

Comes with cable (or cableS for $26 more), C.A.T.S. OBD1 LT1 read-tune-flash-in-one software, & DataMaster datalogger.

If you don't want the DataMaster datalogger, it's $160:

TunerPro RT works well for me. Check your connector, my 95 has the OBDI connector and you'd need the Cable1 variant. I got mine from Moates too. Use it both with the 91 and 95.
And you'd need WinFlash to do the reprogramming. Got that from TunerCats.

Thanks guys.
I like the idea of one stop shopping and I LOVE the idea of tried and true system. Unfortunately though the tuner cat lt1 pro kit is way out of my budget.

I kinda wish I could get the serial cable without the usb adpater. I've got a keyspan serial to usb adapter sitting here not getting used for anything.
