I have a '96 Impala SS. I bought it brand new in Austin, Texas in Oct. '96. One month later I paid the dealer to install a "GM REMOTE VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM" model VSS-350. I was just informed by a reputable stereo shop owner that this alarm system was recalled due to many problems including causing vehicle fires. My local GM dealer as well as the Austin, Texas dealer have denied any recall regarding this system. Has anyone experienced any major problems with this alarm system?

The only way to find out, is to have your trusted stereo shop find a printed copy of a recall against said piece. Then you can go back to the dealer and verify.

If he can't produce it, then don't worry about it.

It's a security system........ the only way a fire is going to happen is if it was installed poorly. Well, it's been installed for a long time, so I doubt that's gonna happen.
